Devils punchbowl

I am sure that a lot of long time locals have been to the Devils Punchbowl, but I was wondering if anyone new to the community has been? It is awesome! Anytime I have relatives or friends come to visit I make a point to take them there. They are always amazed by it and are glad we went, even though it is about a 40 minute drive

It's a beautiful place. There's a trail worth taking to get to a great view at the Devil's Chair. You can also hike from there to Vincent Gap.

It's been years since I've been. Refresh my old memory about how to get there.

You take hwy 138 until you pass get to the city of Pearblossom(approximately). Right around that area you will see some small businesses on the left side of the road and then a gas station. There is a sign on the right side of the road that says Devils Punchbowl next left. The turn is right before the gas station. Then just follow the signs and you are there. If you want a more scenic drive, take hwy 2 pass Mt. High and go towards Jackson Lake. You will be going for a while and then you come to N4,which you turn right on(it is right before a small, family owned cafe on the right). That road,N4,which I believe is also called Largo Vista? dead ends onto 138,then go left. :) :) :) :) :) :)

I went to the punchbowl for the first time this past fall. I loved it! I hiked down with a sandwich, a bottle of water, my camera, and my watercolors. I'm still working on a series of paintings from the trip!  The only downfall was that on the way up from the bottom there were places in the trail where I was climbing nearly straight up. I kept thinking, "Wow, families hike this? Then I realized that I'd missed a turn in the trail and had followed the macho maverick route. Duh. It was still fun.

My daughters class took a field trip there, several years ago, and I went along. It was great! They had waterslides, and that was pretty fun, it was in May, so warm enough to get in the water! I didn't know you could hike there, from here!

The phone number is (661) 944-2743. The ranger told me that the next scheduled meteor hike was going to be August 12, 2004 at 9:00 pm. It is the Perseid shower. The next one after that is the Geminid on Monday, December 13 @ 9:00 pm. The cost is free.  Just so you know also the visitors center is open from 9am-4pm.

It is a beautiful place to hike and take a picnic basket.  You can find private waterfalls for those who are looking for a romantic getaway together.  I encourage anyone who has not visited the punchbowl to go!!

The name of the street is Longview Rd. at Pearblossom.  If you pass the Town & Country store you have passed it.  You can also take the back roads all the way there if you want to take guests on a scenic drive.  I am lucky enough to have my in-laws live at the end of Longview Road and they have horses up there.  The trails and sights in and around Pearblossom can't be beat, especially around Easter when the wildflowers are in bloom.  Devils Punchbowl used to charge $5 for parking,  it was free last time I was there.
It is a great place for fellow teachers to take a field trip because it is a good school age trail and has a large picnic area, as well as a Ranger Station with a few local birds.

Okay I must be missing something. I just went to the Devils punchbowl and I didn't see water falls or water slides or really have the need for good hiking shoes. Tell ya what I did...after walking to the Devils Chair and back, looking for the punch bowl, I finally saw the little marker for the punchbowl and walked a one mile loop down to the water and back. Did I miss something more down there? It was such a beautiful place I want to go back, but I don't want to miss anything again.

The amount of water is seasonal.  Try going in the spring.

This sounds great since my neighbors have turned our block into a landing strip with their stupid lights on all night now.

How challenging a hike is this?

On a scale of 1 to 5...

1 being a piece of cake and 5 being an X-Game level event.
