Wrightwood Disaster

In the event of a disaster in the Wrightwood area, HAMs will be the only contact to the "outside world".  Is there a frequency plan in place?  What frequencies would be used in the event of a large earthquake or some other disaster that would cut Wrightwood off from the outside world.  Do all the HAMs in Wrightwood have an emergency plan as far as communications?  If repeaters are knocked out is there a frequency that local HAMs are to communicate on?

I'd like to add the most likely frequencies to my Wrightwood Frequency List as long as they are within the range of an "Continuous Coverage", "All Mode" scanner (25 - 1300MHz).

This is in preliminary planing stages with the Disaster Team. The foucus will not be on communicating with "the outside world". It is most likely that the focus will be on communicating within Wrightwood to emergency services within Wrightwood. This would be on 220 MHz. The agencies have plans, equipment and manpower to communicate in and out of the community. Eventually we may establish an HF (3.5 to 14 MHz) ability for outside communication to pass health and welfare traffic, but this would most likely be digital and not receivable on a scanner.

Part of last nights Wrightwood FSC board meeting had to do with putting together a Wrightwood Disaster Survival Guide.

This guide was inspired by the Topanga Canyon Survival Guide that was released last month. Jim Wilkins is heading up the committee that will working on the guide. Within that guide will be a communications plan where these issues will be addressed. Clint is also on the committee and will offer his expertise in communications and other fields.
