Just got back from the vet with Gemma. It took an hour and a half of surgury and 28 stitches to put her back together. There are many puncture wounds to keep clean but all in all she is very lucky and acts like nothing happened. The vet told us that she is very healthly and expects her to make a full recovery.

Thank you for all the kind words and prayers. Gemma will be around to say hello by the weekend, on a leash lol

That's wonderful. I know it's a bit off topic, but we love our dogs here in Wrightwood. Maybe you could post a pic of Gemma before the attack, we won't know who she is to say hello after all the wounds heal! ;-)

I'm so glad that Gemma is going to recover! What a sweet face. Thank you, monky6 and your family, for being such great doggie parents and for sharing your story which warns the rest of us. My tiny dachshund would have been merely an appetizer for that big cat.

What a beauty and a fighter to stay alive! So happy she is okay.

Coyotes got one of my dogs a long time ago (our first night in WW cuz the co who put up our fence screwed up and he got thru a small part they did not secure) and he had many stitches as well, but Dr. Laura (at the time sewed him up)...

Our pets are our kids and I'm so relieved Gemma is ok.... Keep her close.

Thank you all for your kind words for Gemma she is such a sweet girl, I feel so blessed to have her as part of our family. Dr. Siegel at Antelope Valley Hospital was amazing along with Dr. Yoo they were so great with her and with helping my family. My neighbors were so amazing also, as without them being there I believe Gemma would not be with us. Happy Holidays to you all!

We came home to BIG Mtn Lion tracks in our yard; the same path it took when it had the dog Jemma in it's mouth! Thank God our neighbor called us, as we were in Phelan. Guess WE were right after all (that nobody wanted to believe us). There are TWO Mtn Lions!

Can you take some photos of the tracks in the snow and put a ruler next to the tracks?

A ruler can be a small help as to the confirmation of the tracks belonging to a mt. lions vs a dog or other animal.
However, feline identification comes from multiple aspects of the tracks because cats like dogs come in all sizes. Check out this web site, it also contains a power-point on spotting the subtle differences between cat and dog tracks.

If you can get quality close up shots of the tracks, where they went and their characteristics then they possibly could be properly identified.

BURBANK, Calif. (KABC) -- Some residents in Burbank were in for a surprise when they discovered two mountain lion cubs in their neighborhood.

The animals were found hiding under a vehicle on Orange Grove Avenue.

Officials said the cubs were suffering from malnutrition.

The cubs were taken Tuesday to the Department of Fish and Game's Wildlife Station in Calabasas, where they were placed with another litter.

The facility tries to rehabilitate animals that belong in the wild but have been injured or orphaned.
