For instance, when I take pics of bikes at the Laughlin Harley Run, I start out from maybe 4 or 5 yards away for an overview while circling the bike, after that, it's in close for the details!
Am i right?

 The Mariposa Lily is beyond beautiful! It reminds me of when glassblowers will add different colors to the globe or vase, and as the glass is blown, the colored spots elongate. I think they call it carnival glass, did I get that right?

Great shots. As an added attraction, the Mariposa Lily has my football teams' colors...Washington Redskins! Burgundy & Gold!!

P.S.
Also, the White Sage looks as delicate as a cloud. Nice job. Keep 'em comin'

I do like to take in a scene from a distance...
It takes some time for the patterns to come out...
It's like looking at one of those 3d pictures....that you can't see at first..but then the image jumps out as you let you eyes go out of focus...

Those bike photos you submitted were wild...

A mistake on my part..
I got the latin right but mixed up the common name.
That lilly is a "Humboldt Lilly"...not a Mariposa.

You're welcome, ffsteve.  I wasn't trying to correct, only to try to figure out what I'm trying to learn.  I just got this wildflower book last year in an attempt to ID some of the flowers I see on my hikes up here.

I'm hoping to experiment with long eposure in low light at sunrise or sunset.....
