Sounds like there's some confusion on who is being contacted.

US Fish and Wildlife Service is a Federal Agency
California Department of Fish And Game (CA DFG) (handles Fishing & Hunting for the entire state and that includes the bear population)

Ya, I actually have no idea which department.  I didn't pay attention to his badge when he came by the first time, and I just called the number given to me.  He came by today and talked to my husband for his report, but I was gone.  I will call the card holder and find out!

Maybe this is part of the confusion, I know its part of mine cuz a friend who is a toxicologist for the Dept. sent me this a couple weeks ago:

SACRAMENTO - Call them words of war between hunters and wildlife activists: Starting January 1st, California's Department of Fish and Game will become the Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The change, hunters say, reflects a move away from traditional hunting and fishing values and is part of a bigger push by the Humane Society of the United States to eliminate hunting across the nation.

Environmentalists and animal activists say it reflects a move to manage all wildlife in the state, not just "game" for hunters.

California's change will leave just 12 states using "game" in the name of the agency overseeing wildlife, according to the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. (Source: nbcnews.com)

I know someone who once tripped over the family dog and fell hard to the ground breaking four ribs on the left side from the bottom up.  Every year thousands of people are injured with tripping accidents with household pets.  I do not know the number of people who have been injured with encounters with wildlife but I would bet that it is substantial.  An unexpected run in with wildlife has the potential for causing serious injury to humans and pets.  People tripping over or on their pets can cause injury to them as well.  Usually, when injury results from an encounter with humans and wildlife the animals are killed in response.

bear cub that was found and rescued in Ojai on Friday and transported to a wildlife care center over the weekend.

Why can't they do that here to this little bear cub?

Per a previous post--this one in our area is old enough to have been booted out by his mom. The ojia cub was still nursing and very young.

I'm just rooting for this little cub, that so many of you have spotted now.. to make it back up in the mountains and be able to live through the coming winter. I so sincerely hope it does. Just for myself here, I would rather a wild animal live in the wild than be taken to a rescue where it may never be released back into the wild. For those rescues that do release them back into their habitats..  I have so much respect. Oh, I also refuse to go to zoos.

I too have tripped over the family dog. But, my most serious injury was when I tripped over the housekeeper's ladder.

It sounds like Fish & Game (soon to be Fish & Wildlife) are trying to drive the cub back up into the forest. Yes or no? If so, it seems like we should all do our part to send that little cub back to where it belongs. I just have to think the Momma bear would have liked us to do that for her cub. best, cheryl o7o

Just came home and the little guy was next door drinking out of their dogs front yard water bowl. Didn't realize they were so bow legged. Will wait an hour to walk the dogs. Making a stop at Bass Pro next week for pepper spray. This cub looks big enough to fend for himself. I'm rooting for his safety before hibernation.

I don't think you are correct. The two agencies are completely different with one being Federal and the other being State.

Wrightwood... See the post yesterday by 'In my Dreams' which included a news release about the renaming of "Fish and Game" to "Fish and Wildlife"..
aside from that,, heck if I know. That is what my post referred to.

TLC:  How about .. in lieu of pepper spray.. just having pots and pans ready to clang together. The pepper spray could immobilize him/her.

Oh, goodness.. It does take a community to raise a child.. or in this instance a cub.

I do hope the little cub goes back up into the forest.. but somehow I have a feeling that I will see it at Mountaineer Days next year.. just wandering around on Park with no leash or anything.   best, cheryl o7o

Ok you guys... someone in this group just sent me a lovely pm about the cub. In it that person gave me a 'two thumbs up." I thought that was a really nice pm to receive.   And, I told that person that I thought she had just named the little cub. For me.. this little cub is "Two Thumbs Up." We're just all rooting for the little cub.  I leave it to the lovely person that sent me that  pm to claim credit for the name.

So, since you guys in WW are creating a "neighborhood watch' .. I sort of can't think of a better way to get that on wheels than to save a cub and come together to do so.  .. Sheesh, I wish I lived closer .. I'd put up flyers. I'm in P.H.  But,you know.. people do bond quicker over animals than crime. Just a thought here.  best, cheryl o7o

I  must suggest here that you both  take a tape player with Wayne Newton singing "Dunka Shien" (sp?)  Just keep playing it .. over and over.. rather loud. Trust me ..not only will that little cub go off into the wild.. but so will your neighbors that you do not like.

Pac Fan... I think that bear trap would go over well in West Hollywood.

I haven't seem my Mountaineer Progress for this week yet, but evidently there is a story about a bear cub in Pinon Hills at someone's home. A friend e-mailed me about it. The cub was spotted on someone's porch on the north side of the 138. Whereabouts exactly, I'm not sure. The fellow did not go out to investigate further if there was a Momma bear there as well.  So, this is either the same cub that has wandered in the wrong direction.. or another cub.
I don't know. cheryl o7o

Just saw the MP and the story about the bear cub sighted in Pinon Hills. I don't know if this cub is "Two Thumbs Up" or not. But, it was seen one mile north of the 138 near Oasis with no Momma bear in sight. The story is on the front page of the MP .. with a picture.  So, what do I do if it shows up here?
I'm thinking pots and pans and I know I have a kazoo someplace .. I save that stuff for the grandkids. So, we either have one or two wandering cubs.

   I was just wondering....If the little bear that was putzing around the Pinion Hills Area could have made it over to Llano? (towards the west)
  ~~~Crystalaire Golf Club~~~
UPDATE on CrystalBear-- Fish & Game safely removed the bear for treatment and care as they believe it to be sick or undernurished for its age. Their goal is to return it to the wild after treatment. Although never confirmed, the mama bear was reported to have been seen in the area. There is a video of the bear that will be posted as soon as available. Thanks for all the "likes" and kindness to the little "guy"-- or was it a she?
A small cub darted out in front of me this morning as he ran across highway 2 at Rivera. I had to slam on the brakes to avoid him.
I saw the cub in the same area this morning at about 5am, running along the white fence at the orchard NE of Riviera/Hwy 2.  He(she) must have found something tasty around there.  Lock up your trash cans.
