Can Jackson Lake be used again as an swimming hole? The Forest Service is only interested in keeping the lake natural. Taking in consideration the cost to abate the reeds

We have never had a problem while swimming with the Reeds.  They are kind of an odd family, but they always kept to themselves when ever we have entered the water.  I see no reason to abate them.

Criminy - what used to be a neat place is getting junkier and junkier...trash, soiled diapers, broken bottles, abandon broken toys...I wish the US Forest people would put up toll booths to collect the $ for the trash people clean up.

Once again it is up to the civilized in our declining society to step up and work to keep this jewel from being destroyed by the disrespectful. I'll volunteer to go with trash bags and clean up the mess, as soon as the F.S. drains the lake. (Maybe I can get some of my lures back.)

It looks like someone put up a new sign at Jackson Lake saying not to pollute the lake.   Hopefully that may work but Im not putting the family farm on it.

Taking in consideration the cost to abate the reeds and remove the debris in the water, the legal problems of personal injury lawsuits, and vandalism that some uncaring forest visitors may inflict on it, the answer to that question would be an resounding "no". The glory of the old Jackson Lake may be gone, but it can still be the place to go to relax in the quiet, dip your feet into the cold water with a loved one, toss a fishing line in the water, or paddle a canoe. The glory of the present day Jackson Lake is most surely there.

Actually, there is a Decision Memo that was signed a couple of years ago that allows the district to remove the cattails and try different methods to discourage their regrowth.  After the decision was signed, there was record rainfall and the lake level was too high to incorporate many of the methods.  I don't know what the lake level is now, but the person in charge of the project was given a temporary promotion to run the water systems on the forest.  Don't know if the project ever got going after that.

It would be cool to rent a paddle boat on the lake. They could make it a lot nicer.

making it nicer is the easy part....KEEPING IT nice would mean policing those trashy low life that come up that have no respect for anything, let alone a wonderful natural spot like Jackson Lake.

The new USFS Volunteer Patrol Group DOES make Jackson Lake part of their patrol route and has been making their presence known. No doubt increased attention will be given to this area as the weather gets nicer and more people use the Lake.  We can also write Incident/Warning Reports on people not properly displaying their fishing licenses.

You may have noticed that the graffiti that was on the bathrooms across the road was removed.  Jim (a paid USFS employee) did a great job on that, and other restrooms in the area that had graffiti on them.

That's great news, RobertW.  It always galled me to see the meat fishers with their ice chest full of trout and not license visible.
