It's an emergency net from Keller Peak 2 meter.
They discuss anything related to S&R, medical, weather, tonight snake bites, eye injuries, etc.

I didn't think of that.  What day and time is the Rescue Net and will you always keep the scanner locked on that frequency during the net?

The Rescue Net is on Tuesday Nights at 8pm.

Last night was an experiment to see how good the audio quality would be using our Online Scanner. For some reason using the feed from the Keller Peak 2m repeater is not as sharp as the feed from the Table Mountain 2m repeater.

They both sound similar at the scanner end so it's something I'll need to work on. My first thoughts is something to do with digital signals and re-compressing them which can causing clipping.

I'm not promissing (yet) that the Rescue Net will be feed each week through the Online Scanner

Why is there a significant time delay, ~ 10 seconds, between live and the online scanner?

For the 20 minutes or so that I was listening, it was fascinating!  The Net Controller was well versed in the subject from what I heard, and the questions were well thought out as well.  I'll try to be listening to this in the future as well.

Ken,
From the Scanner end - The audio comes out of the scanner and fed into the computer. Then the computer processes the audio with compression.

From your computer you're first connecting to our server in Florida to get things started. From there you're directed back into the IP address in Wrightwood where the scanner and computer sit. Remember that routing can go anywhere to get here as that why it's know as the "web". You're probably using Verizon-Verzion as your ISP and data line for DSL. I'm using Linkline-Verzion so there's some more routing taking place. Oh, and did I mention the hand shaking that must take place between the computers?

Once you're connected the hand shaking continues to take place in order for the signal to be processed on your end. Then the audio on your end must be processed for you to hear it from your speakers. One last thing that must be taken into consideration on these delays is that computers on both ends are running multiple programs and can vary in speed depending on how hard they are working and the overall health and condition of the system.

When I've checked the in the past it appeared to be about a 7-8 second delay. Maybe it takes another 2-3 seconds to arrive in Phelan  ;D

I have been listening to this net for quite a while now, since I got my license.

They always have intresting topics and well qualified speakers.

I encourage all to listen as often as possible.

Matt,
I remembered and the Keller Peak 2 meter repeater is now being fed through the online scanner.

The Rescue Net starts at 20:00 hours (8pm).
