Saturday Sept 1 presentation on Amateur Radio participation in Angeles Crest 100 mile foot race.
Saturday September 1 there will be a presentation on the Amateur Radio participation in the Angeles Crest 100 mile foot race. The presentation is open to all licensed radio operators and will be held from 9 am to 11 am in the meeting house at 1456 Linnet Rd, Wrightwood. (Between Walnut & Elm). Coffee and donuts will be provided.
The presentation includes an overview of the race and the use of voice and packet radio for support of the health and safety of the runners in the AC100.
The AC100 starts in Wrightwood at 5 am on Saturday September 15. Runners follow trails including the Pacific Crest trail and Mt. Baden-Powell for 100 miles. The race concludes near the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on Sunday September 16. There are 14 checkpoints between Wrightwood and Pasadena. Each checkpoint is staffed with volunteers to provide food and refreshments and record the times and runner number as each runner arrives at each checkpoint and then leaves for the next checkpoint. These times provide the essential information so race search and rescue personnel know when to expect each runner at the next checkpoint.
Amateur radio operators are needed to help at the Inspiration Point and the Vincent Gap Checkpoint on Saturday September 15. The rewards for each volunteer include the gratitude of each of the more than 100 runners and their families as well as an official Angeles Crest 100 t-shirt.
