Rock Climbing

Does anyone in town rock climb?  I am new to town and was hoping there may be some local spots, I know Mormon Rocks used to allow climbing.  I have been to Holcolm Valley Pinnacles in BBear a few times but don't have an experienced partner to climb outdoors with.  Hit me up if you know of local places or are interested and experienced enough to head to another climbing spot.

New Jack City (Sawtooth Canyon) between Bartsow and Lucerne Valley has a lot of pretty decent sportclimbing.  :2thumbsup: There is also climbing in Apple Valley at various places, including the area behind the BMX track near Dead Man's Point.  The rock there is a lot like JT, only grittier.  When Hwy 2 finally opens, and if whoever is in charge decides the frogs are OK, Williamson Rock is a sweet place to spend the day.

Mt. Pacifico. Although the drive is a pain with 2 closed. You have to go around to Angeles Forest Highway. There are a couple of nice long cracks you can chimney wit a top rope.

NO BOLTS - Climb clean!

Hey, I'd like to get in on some climbing, too.  Maybe someone could put together an informal tri-area climbers group?  If you have a trip planned, please give me a holler here at the forum.

BMX, The Cemetary and the Pinnacles are good but Williamson is the would be destination.  Contact FoWR to fight for reopening Williamson  http://williamsonrock.org/

I got on the website and it sounds like the FS is trying to work with the climbing community.  But, if they can't do the needed environmental analysis because of no budget, then their hands are tied.  If you really want to help, call your congressional rep and tell them to get with the program to get the Interior Appropriations bill thru congress and on the president's desk for signature.  Yes, the FS is in the dept. of Agriculture, but they don't get their budget thru Ag, it comes thru the Interior appropriations bill (a holdover from when the FS was the Bureau of Forestry in the Dept. of Interior prior to 1905).  The other issue is, the FS can't enter into any agreements with either the Access fund or the FOWR until a bill is signed.  You can't enter into a new cost share or other type of financial agreement under a continuing resolution (I learned this the hard way locally....).  If there is an umbrella agreement with the Access fund that was signed at the national level they may be able to slip in under that.  It is so frustrating when you actually have a potential solution, and a group that is willing to work with the agency, and congress is too busy running for re-election to do their jobs!  >:(
