In circumstance like this we are looking for information, not photographic quality.
Thanks for the pictures

Is there any information on the 138 and County Line fire?
-
There has been so much traffic about the Ramp fire that I've lost track of the others.
Maybe someone who lives in the area can give us a visual.

Fire at 138 and Hwy 18??? Near Largo Vista. This was taken from my house in Pinon Hills. We can see some flames and helicopters dropping water.
-
So are there 2 or 3 fires? The Ramp fire, the Morman rocks fire - and what about the 18 and 138 or is that the Ramp fire?
-
The Ramp fire is the one affecting the 138. This is by the Mormon Rocks. I guess there's the one near 138 and the 18. Anyone know if it is affecting Largo Vista? I have to go to Oak Hills tonight to see someone and I HAVE to get out of Wrightwood. Any advice?

The Ramp fire, the Morman rocks fire are the same fire. It has burned across the hill and is now approaching West Cajon Valley. The evacuation order is on the north side of Highway 138 between Mormon Rocks and Mountain Shadow Ranch Road.
-
I don't know about N4 The closure is open 'til 5 but I doubt you can make it in time to catch the last east bound escort.
-
Just a little concerned about the fire being described over at the Largo Vista area, if it's affecting the N4 way out of Wrightwood. I'll be leaving after 5 p.m. so I can't go that way.
-
Is or is not N4 and/or Largo Vista being affected? Anyone?
If it is then shouldn't they keep on flagging so we have a safe way out of Wrightwood?
Just a thought. ???

Fire at 138 and Hwy 18
my view...
there are 2 big fires in the area.
Fire #1:off the 15 that has burned its way over to the morman rocks and is headed towards west cajon valley
Fire #2: In the area of highway 138, highway 18, and Largo Vista (Im not seeing anything about any closures. Ill update if i can find out anything)
There were reports of a fire at highway 138 and sheep creek and that turned out to be false... or at least thats what im hearing.
-
-
At the present N4 is your only option and it is questionable. When/if you get home let us know about its status.
GOOD LUCK

ForestGal:
From PinionMesaJon(From the other thread):
As of about 4:00, Lone Pine was open. 138 was open from I-15 to Lone Pine - closed west of that point.
-
Thanks, kew - I'll be leaving in a few minutes and am going to avoid the freeway. Sure hope Largo Vista will be ok by the time I get there.
-
I just came up Largo Vista, the fire in that area is east of it. I sat at the flagging for awhile and they would not let us thru, even WW residents as they did not have anyone to escort us... STUPID. I had to drive all the way around as they would not have someone take us the one-two miles thru. Talked to CHP and everything.... UGH.....
So it took me almost 2.5 hours to get from VV......
I passed this fire on the fwy at 1:00pm and there were no flames and it appeared it was out, I wonder what the h#ll happened?
Good Luck and I would stay on the mtn, just in case...
-
-
Thanks for the Largo Vista update, Angelwolf. I'm leaving Apple Valley right now and I really want to be able to get home.
-
NP Forestgal.... Drive safe.....
-
here's a small fire that was just smoldering on the side of mt. BP. somewhere above and to the south of the big horn mine. this was at about 4:30.

I made it home from Apple Valley with no problems at all! Taking 18 to 138 to Largo Vista, it was 47 miles from where I work, and it took me an hour, only about 13 miles and 20 minutes longer than LPC to 15.
Thanks again for everyone's updates. What would we do without this forum? :2thumbsup:
-
I would be lost...... I wish I could access it by my cell phone...... LOL Then I would know what is happening. But when I can't get thru to someone in WW, I call Mile High Pizza and they always know what is going on.... Thanks LAS and the boys...
-
No problem ForestGal. Glad you got home safely.

Any word on the "smoker" up on Baden Powell? I'd hate to see that take off in the trees up there.
-
Vegetation Fire: I 15/215 split
All flames knocked down. Forward rate of spread stopped.
-
-
I just heard a small mention of the smoker on Baden Powell.
Doesn't sound like it did much.
-
Thanks ForestGal, you're a lifesaver.
-
Everyone on here today has been a lifesaver! :2thumbsup: I sure do appreciate the messages I was getting back while I was stuck at work, wondering how I was going to get home after a friend called me and alerted me to the whole situation. We were busy and I hadn't had a chance to even look at the forum until she called.
I think it's fantastic that we can all help each other on this forum, by posting our observations as soon as possible in situations like this.

There was a small brush fire coming up the Devore crunch about 45 minutes ago. Looked like they were knocking it down pretty good. Had a missed photo opp tonight. Camera was way in the back of the car, and not in arms reach, or we would have shared some very good silhouette shots of the crew attacking the fire.....
Any word on the causes... Lighting ???
That fire near Kenwood was covered in this topic. Never heard a cause.
-
It does sound like it might have been from a vehicle.

A lightning fire started a blaze today at 12:24 on 233rd street east and Ft. Tejon road in the Mescal Creek area east of Largo Vista road. The fire was quickly pushed to over 50 acres due to powerful down drafts from thunderstorms. The U.S. Forest Service and Los Angeles County Fire Departments contained the fire at 80 acres at appro. 20:00 this evening. The fire was named the "Highland" incident and over 12 homes were saved. Engines and Hand Crews were supported by dozers, Helicopters including LA County's Blackhawk ship and two Airtankers. The fire is currently contained and full control is expected at 08:00 on 7-23-2006. This is the fire that was visible from hwy 138 and 18 intersection. Crews and Engines will be working through the night mopping up hot spots and securing the lines.

Any word on the "smoker" up on Baden Powell? I'd hate to see that take off in the trees up there.
It is on the San Gabriel River Ranger district. They will probably helicopter some crews in there to take care of it. It is in steep, rugged, nasty "you can't get there from here" country. But as of 6:30 or so last night, the FS was aware of it and was trying to figure out how to get in there to put it out.
-
I haven't seen if the 138 has reopened - does anyone know?
-
The 138 was open when I came home from Riverside last night.
-
What about the fire at Kenwood? I may have to go down to North Fontana today.
-
Vegetation Fire: I 15/215 split
All flames knocked down. Forward rate of spread stopped.
The fire near Kenwood was put out and information was previously posted.
-
We came in from Vegas late last night (2:30 am) and all lanes were open on the 15 SB....Had a traffic light board warning of firefighters working on the 138 but we didn't see any or the glow or flames. Looked like they had it pretty well knocked down. Went through some hellacious thunderstorms on the 15 , maybe they helped out with the fires.
-
Thanks!!

It was hard to get good info on road closures on the radio, (960 am, our local news channel, had a canned program on...102.3 was useless, 98.1 was innacurate) and when we heard there were fires off N4 and Devore also...I realized how limited we were. I really didn't think we'd make it back to WW. I calld the WW Inn and tried to get info from some of the people there...but they didn't know much either.
Great pics in the other thread!
Wrightwood....Do you think you could start a radio station too? ;D You'd have alot of callers.

hey pete, call me next time, i will send you my cell number.....
