Nuclear Power Plants

Are they safe?
Who knows?
When I worked for CalFire in Ventura County, I had to take a safety class at San Onofre.
It's all interesting, yet scarey.
Hope it all stays safe for all of us. I don't trust that stuff.

Years ago a group of us were riding the dunes at Pismo Beach which is close to the Diablo plant. I took advantage of a porta potty way out on the dunes.
I looked up and there was a sign "if you hear two short beeps, followed by two long beeps, followed by two short beeps.. Take Cover.
I figured the only cover would be to dive in.  Cheryl o7o

Nolena.. I did not want to make light of the concern you raised about nuclear power. I share your concern.

Back in the 80s I worked for an elected official here in CA. We got a call from a teacher in a community not far from San Onofre. One of her students had found a bunch of files from San Onofre in a dumpster. In those files were documents regarding an 'accident' at San Onofre. One of their trucks hauling waste had inadvertently dumped radioactive waste into a local sewage plant (Carson if I recall correctly).  That had been caught and reported. I do recall talking to the NRC and the fellow was not all that polite frankly. The reason for the "mistake" was that the truck hauling the waste had parked in the wrong parking spot and was not inspected before it left. Once he was done being defensive about their investigation.. I told him "Well, you have to admit if a mistake like this happens because a truck parked in the wrong parking spot . .. it does give reason for concern."

I do not know if San Onofre/SCE  has changed its procedures for monitoring the disposal of nuclear waste from the tanks or whether they have changed their parking restrictions. And, now that San Onofre may or may not be coming partially back on line.. we just need to stay on our toes about all this.

Way back in 1980, as a 6th grader, I remember going to a movie titled "NO NUKES."  It was heavy man.... really heavy....   ::)

I also remember seeing a movie that same year titled "XANADU"...  :crazy:

1980 was a year for some awesome movies.  Movies like, Empire Strikes Back, The Shining, Elephant Man, Airplane, Blues Brother's, The Gods Must Be Crazy, Private Benjaman, The Fog, 9 to 5, Stir Crazy, Caddy Shack, Prom Night, Seams Like Old Times, Flash Gordan, Urban Cowboy, and who could forget Bronco Billy!!!

Why the heck I paid good money to see No Nukes and Xanadu, I'll never know....  ::)

Pac Fan... You always crack me up. I saw most of those films. Really glad I didn't see "No Nukes" or "Xanadu."  I think you've earned my "Nine to Five" coffee cup to go with your t-shirt collection.

I have to wonder if "No Nukes" got any box office in Japan.?? cheryl o7o
