History of Clyde families

Priscilla Singleton and Almon Clyde were my gr gr grandma's sister and her husband. I am compiling a history of the families and would like more information on the Clydes and the ranch. Also I have a map that shows 3 pieces of property -- 2 in WW. I believe one could be Almon's brother, Ed Clyde. Almon had the homestead on LPC Road. Who owned the other piece of property in WW and are there any documents to prove that?

Check with the Gary Hopkins at Clyde Ranch.... I think Albert Clyde also owned property in Long Pine Cyn, a little further up from the ranch..to the northwest (north of Lone Pine Cyn Rd,near where the limestone mining was taking place.

What's your authority on the property? Is there a deed? I can't write anything unless I have a fact to back it up -- a document of some kind. I don't write hearsay. Is there a map to show where Albert's property was?

He said to check with Gary Hopkins. Good luck, sounds like an interesting project.

I have spoken and visited with Gary. We visited the ranch in March. Walked all over the ranch. Had a great time. I know about Albert. Just wondering if anyone knows where his ranch was and is there any documentation to prove Albert had property.

Ranch Historian... you can plan a trip to the County Assessors office. I would call them in advance to let them know what you're looking for so you start out in the right place. . I've done this myself on research projects. You start with the current map books on the property.. and then go back .. map book by map book and trace the ownership of the various parcel numbers. I suggest wearing an apron or t-shirt over your clothes. Those old map books are dusty and sometimes moldy.
Have fun and good luck. cheryl o7o

Thank you, Cheryl. We live in Chandler, AZ but could be over in Redlands in September. Actually, I'm a 4th generation San Bernardian -- my gr gr grandma driving her covered wagon to San Bernardino in 1857.

Well, you could ask the County Assessors office if they could do a bit of research for you. When I worked at the L.A. County Assessors office.. I would do that for free. I don't know if SBD can do that for you.. can't hurt to ask. You will need the current parcel map numbers so they can trace it back .. or at least the current addresses.. it will be a bit of research.
Goodness.. in a covered wagon. I hope some of those stories have been passed down to you. cheryl o7o

Yes, Cheryl. Many of the Singleton stories have been compiled in my aunt's book that she printed in 1983. The book is no longer available. She only had a certain number printed. I'm carrying on with her family researching when I came upon the Clyde ranch. I just made contact with a member of the Oak Glenn families a few months ago.

Been there too many times. You're behind times. I was a member of the San Bernardino Genealogy Society before it was the California Room.

Yes, us family historians are always behind the times. We have to be behind the times to preserve those times for the future. Right?

Good logic,
--- I like that, Ranch Historian. I'm currently working with this guy from Colorado River Historical Society, who asked me to write some items on the Spanish Trail that runs through our area. We took a trip to old Fort Paiute and he mentioned: Close your eyes, you can hear the echo of history here. To be part of it, put yourself back into that time, it assists you in finding what you seek." He's like 89 years old.
