How about getting a shot inside the nest?

Wrightwood, aren't you the one with the stilts to take the picture overlooking the gas station?   Maybe you can put them on and take a picture.  ;D

You would think with the way that wind whips down in there that it would come down.   I'll be on the lookout for the tailfeathers.    BTW my four year old loves the bird nest on the Rite Aid sign.   I think it's on the "e".  Has anyone else seen it?

Does anyone have outdoor furniture with a pad who has had a bird tear it apart to get to the stuffing?    I wouldn't have believed it except that I caught him in the act this morning.   And I just made those cushion covers last week.   :o

How should I keep them from destroying it further?

Ya, I've seen birds do that.

They're getting "stuffing' to build their nests.

I would probably not place my pads outside until they've nested.  But then I've not had that problem.

One potential problem I do have is a huge squirrel nest about 100 ft. high in one of our trees.  It's been there for a couple of years and it IS HUGE !!  I worry about what will happen when it is finally blown down by the wind.

Sorry if this is an alteration of the thought in this thread.  :-(

We have a pair of Scrub Jays that have been around for several years. At the beginning of Spring they built a nest in their usual spot in a tree next door. Then, they built one in a tree in our yard, produced at least one young 'un, and now have moved on to another tree to build yet another nest. Not sure what happened to the youngster - it wasn't old enough to be independent when they started on the third nest but the nest is empty. Very odd, is this usual? We also have a big white pigeon that has taken up residence under the eaves. Had a different one last year. Is it weird to have pigeons here?

The pigeons we have here are Band-tailed Pigeons, which are wild forest pigeons and somewhat shy.  I think it's because of those embarrassing yellow feet... check out Wrightwood's great photos of Band-tailed Pigeons (post numbers 11 and 13)

Nice pictures WW, I noticed yesterday that it looked like the nest had gone from a two story to a side by side duplex. It also appears that if we get some rain that there might be some BBQ Raven by the way the nest crosses those two high voltage wires. :o

OH MAN! Very good point Chesslike. I had'nt noticed that. Of course by the time the rainy season rolls back around, they will be out of the nest.

One can only hope too....that when the young fledge the nest from that point that they don't get a shocking good start as they stretch their wings for their first madden voyage.

Yesterday I saw an adult raven feeding two young ravens in that duplex nest on Phelan Road. I sure hope that they are out of that nest before we get some monsoon rain. Otherwise, we will surely see some shocking bird activity. :o
