lone pine canyon tree

i read somewhere there is a pine tree in lone pine canyon that was damaged by an earthquake in the early 1800's.  off of the main trunk are two branches that form the letter U.  does it still stand and where is it?  did the lone pine canyon tree give lone pine canyon it's name?
