Do the certificates have your pictures on them?

I think we got gypped gus, we didn't get any certificates in the first class. :-\

I talked to the guy from the CERT organization on Saturday and he said our ID cards with our pictures on them were delayed because they were being redesigned. He said they were making all the cards standard with only a decal of the area of the CERT training the only difference in them. He said that this was for the CHP in case of any roadblocks, they would immediately be able to identify the CERT cards. He also said that they had just received a new printer to make up these photo ID cards, they looked great and we would probably be receiving them in the not so distant future.

Will you be posting them, or are all those pics you took of me 8x10's on your walls now?  *giggle*

It's a lot of info to handle for kids.  It would have to be toned way down.  Part of the program deals with preparing your household for an emergency and preparing a plan with your family, so YOU would be passing your knowledge on to the kids.

I wish they would have one specifically designed for kids.

KW, you need to prioritize this high on your list - this is a must for everyone.  Once we get a few more classes trained, I would like to see refresher courses.  A lot of it is common knowledge, but I certainly learned a lot and feel that I would have a direction if there was an emergency and I would not be running around like a chicken with my head cut off (what a weird saying!).

My daughter is planning on taking it next time it comes around.  She's an EMT and is going to be part of the County of San Bernardino Search & Rescue soon, but I need her on the same page that I'm on since she will be invaluable in an emergency.

I would like to take the class, but haven't been able to work it with my schedule. Does anyone know when the next class is being offered?

They can call it CERT jr.  Make it just one day.  Give some good info like shutting off gas, collecting neighborhood pets ect.  Defining roles is important.

I took the one-day course a while back, and just need to find three Saturdays that fit with the up coming schedule. My husband wants to take it too, and my 15 year old son if possible.

I have a feeling that Wrightwood will be one of the most prepared communities around, with all the interest in these classes. (per capita)

The course in general is OK for most everyone, except it contains some very graphic photos. They're no worst than images seen on some TV shows but these are real.

If I personally had a child under 16 who wanted to attend, I would think long and hard before allowing them to do so.

There was a very bad accident around the corner from my house. They didn't use sirens when they arrived so I wasn't aware of it until I went to the store. The didn't need help but it was quite the learning experiance.

One thing they failed to tell us in class is, these situations come with sound effects. The victim had a badly broken femur and was writhing in pain. Not a fun experiance.

Interesting as the 1st class hasn't received their certificates yet.

The next date has not yet been announced but I'll see if I can get the information.

That would be great - right now my schedule is posted through the end of January, so the sooner I can know dates to request off, the better for me.  Yikes, do I need to win the lottery or what!!!

Have any of you who took the CERT training in October received your ID cards?

I got a copy of my Completed Disaster Service Worker (DSW) registration and oath forms in the mail today from the County Fire Dept.

I'll be manning a spot in front of Mt. Hardware tomorrow for those last-minute shoppers to purchase disaster kits!  What a thoughtful gift this would make!  The sale is from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  Hope to see you there!

DISASTER PREPAREDNESS TOOLS MAKE GREAT CHRISTMAS PRESENTS

Are you stumped for ideas for Christmas presents this year? Tired of fighting crowds at the mall or giving the same old doodads that are quickly forgotten? Getting prepared for a disaster is a message that never gets old or outdated, and giving gifts of tools or emergency kits is the ultimate way to show your family that you really care. For example, the Wrightwood Disaster Preparedness Team (WDPT) has assembled an Emergency Survival Kit for the home or auto that contains really useful items like an emergency blanket, food and water, a flashlight, and medical supplies, all designed to sustain an individual for three days.  The WDPT will be selling these kits, which retail for $25.00, in front of Mountain Hardware in Wrightwood on the Saturday of December 23 from 10AM to 1PM. More information can be obtained from Kim Floyd 249-5385, or Jack Jacobs at 249-5124. It could be vitally important that you learn to TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY BECAUSE THERE MAY BE NO ONE AVAILABLE TO HELP!
