Check your Edison bill
« on: Mar 13, 08, 09:00:42 PM »
Edison did an estimated meter read for many homes in Wrightwood for the month of January. When they did the actual read for February, those bills may have incurred more costs because it would make it seem like your energy usage was over the baseline by a larger percentage for that month. (since they added the extra from January to the February bill)

A friend of mine called Edison and they happily checked the rates and reduced their bill by $20, and they told my friend they would do that for people who called who's bills fit that profile. It is not an automatic thing; if you think you have been overcharged, please call Edison. Reductions will vary based on your usage.

If you think you can't, you won't.

Last month's bill was shockingly low.   Now I know why.   They probably had to guess because they couldn't get to the meters.  I don't think complaining is going to do me any good.   I go over baseline every month.

Wait till you get your next months bill. :o They did that to us once and the next month we had to pay a few hundred.

It might Stitches. It might have bumped you up into a more expensive tier that you don't normally reach on your next bill. Edison's bills are incredibly complex and I am sure the vast majority of people don't even attempt to decipher them. They also billed me at a very low estimated usage for January and then in February I wound up reaching a tier that I don't usually reach in the Winter. I definitely think they are making some extra money from many people with what they have done. I have no idea what hat they picked their estimated usage figures from, because it was not close to the amount used in January for the past several years. I think they could do a much better job on their estimates, but it seems that they have an incentive to underestimate so they will get increased fees that they did not earn in the following month.

You are right BostonBob.    I'm waiting anxiously for my next bill and I'm prepared for sticker shock  :o.    I'll take out my previous bill and will be ready to complain when time comes.

I always thought if the ever had to guess, they do it based on your use rate for the same time the previous year.

Our bill has varied significantly over the past 3 months too.  I called and they will go back an re-average your usage over the last several months.  I highly recommend doing this so you don't get all of the extra overage charges billed in one month at the over basline rate.

Why can't Ww have a higher baseline in the winter and lower in the summer?  Never even get close to the baseline in the summer months.

Well, my estimated January bill was 3 times the amount of my February bill, but the estimate was less than last year's actual read. The guy on the phone told me to watch the March bill in case it is significantly over the February bill, and adjustments will be made.

If it's electric we are talking about, I'd rather have them raise my baseline during the summer as I run the A/C as soon as the temps get over 75.  (I can't bear the heat).   During the winter, it's not a big deal.    It's the gas that is expensive for us, at least for my family.

Just got my reworked bill. Saved $81.00 by having the bill averaged out over the estimated months vs. just lumped into last month.
If you go to the Edison Web Site you can get info on averaging your bill so winter and summer are evened out. www.sce.com

Our bill was an extra $250 this month due to this estimation. Thats just not right to me. Couldn't they add on a little to the next few bills so I'm not stuck with at $550 bill? My electric is always high due to my grooming business but not that high!! :o

Did Edison tell you on the phone that you would save $81.00?

I called and they are reworking my Jan & Feb bill and they would send them out, I should know in 3 to 5 days....I haven't got my March bill yet, it doesn't come out until 4/3/08 but I am on level pay plan (is that what you are talking about evening out your bill through winter  & summer?) I love the level pay plan ( I have it with gas company too!), with the exception of the fact that it went up because of the January bill being so high....Arturo @ edison said he'd change that back as well.

I do my bill paying with Edison on the net so I got an e-mail about two weeks ago saying my electric bill was $462.00. January was $39.00. When I recovered, I called them and started the process. I got the new bill with the credits a few days ago and it went down $81.00.
Yes, the "Level Pay Plan was what I was writing about. Since most of us don't have A/C or don't need to use it much, it can have a big affect on winter bills with all the extra lights, indoor time and blower motor on the furnace going. When we lived in Palmdale it was the Summer we needed to average out. Our bill in August (the month before we moved to WW) was $900~!

Did anyone check the little goody that they put inside this month's bill? They are filing for a 17.5% increase in residential rates to take affect 10/09. This will bring the average rate to 17.5 cents/ KWH. :o

Has anyone noticed that their bill has doubled this month?  Our bill went from 89. to 165. this month.  I called Edison and request that they re-read the meter and in fact the bill was correct.  I was told it's because we are on winter rates now.  But we have never had an Edison bill, in the winter, this high.  Plus, there's only 3 of us now at home instead of 5.  I asked if rates had gone up from last winter and the lady said no.  What gives?  I don't get it.  All our windows are double paned, insulation up the you know what.  All our appliances are gas and so is the central heat which we leave set at 59.  Our fireplace (which is an big insert) does have an blower but would it use that much electricity?
