Yellow Flowers in May

I am trying to figure out what kind of flowers these are... driving up to Lake Arrowhead in May there are a ton of bushes with bright yellow flowers lining the 18 on the south side and 138 on the north side. They seem to thrive in fairly arid areas. Does anyone have a name for these?

Hi eversluys!
Does it look like this? Then it is sulfur-flower buckwheat.

It might also be scotch broom - I know there were tons of them on the way to our cabin in Running Springs when I was a kid. About May the sides of the roads would be lined with them.

I believe Scotch Broom is it. It blooms every year around my wife's birthday so its her favorite flower. I want to see if I can find a "domesticated" variant that I can plant in the yard. Looks like the roadside flowers are pretty obnoxious.

I don't think you'll be able to find it at a nursery, its considered an invasive species like pampas grass.

Sweet Broom grows along the highway on the way up to Arrowhead. Years ago, and I cant remember what came before the broom, I want to say Spanish Broom but I can be wrong but I bought it at Armstrongs in Glendora. It does well in drought areas.
