Hello everybody, I need a tree cut down. It's about 100' high.  Because it's close to the house, my fire insurance company told me they won't renew me unless I cut it down.  Anyone else get this kind of a mandate? Has anybody here had a tree removed recently and had a good experience with the person(s) who provided the service? I could use a good recommendation.  Thanks in advance.

Just a thought: if a tree could fall on power lines, SCE may be willing to remove it for you.  Worth a try.

You could also consider changing your homeowner's insurance.

The only fire insurance we've been able to find is through California Fair Plan, which is the insurer of last resort.

If Domingo has someone else, he may be fortunate.

I shop new insurance every year.

That's not an easy or cheap option in Wrightwood. Our home is only 20 years old, fire sprinklers, new roof, and in a relatively less forested part of town. We received a non renewal notice and are going to have to pay lots more for a new policy due to living in a fire zone.

I'm in Pinon Hills which is also considered "high risk" for fire.  It's probably not as high a risk as WW - high enough to keep me scanning the horizon.  My agent is Adam Raymond with Empire Independent in Riverside. Tel is 951 368 0900.  He currently has my homeowners with Kemper.  Earthquake is with Pacific Specialty.

Dear lwt42, you're right: it IS hard to get fire insurance and it's getting harder all the time.  My neighbor has State Farm fire insurance and mine is specifically for my profession.  But I feel vulnerable and they may send me a non-renewal notice at any time in the future, which would be ironic after following their orders and having my tree cut down.  I'm mentally prepared to have to go with the CA Fair Plan at some point.  With what it costs, that will hurt for sure.  And the travesty of it all is that the high cost of fire insurance will make it harder for us to sell our houses in the future.
