High voltage in Wrightwood

Last weekend my home voltage hovered around 125 volts.  Today it is up to 133-135.  Last time it was this high my dryer motor overheated and shut off.  I have since turned off my television and key electronics.

Going to call Edison.

Anyone else have high voltage in their homes?

You need a voltmeter.

Talked to another person in town.  Their normal voltage is 124 but are reading 133.5 today.

Yes.. Just checked and at the meter I'm getting 130.2 and on both legs 260. I'm calling edison

Just called SCE and reported the high voltage. (when I gave the edison rep my voltage reading of 130.2 volts. he asked, what should it be?  . I said politely, you're from edison don't you know. His response - I'm not an electrician. )

Just checked again and it's now at 118-119 volts.

Moose, what made you check? Do you just do it periodically ?

My computer batttery backup unit started beeping and went to battery power.  Probably because of the high voltage.  Another person's unit also showed via a light that it was in "trim" mode.  Now that the power is back to a normal range both of our battey unit are back to normal also.

I'm watching my UPS (uninterruptible power supply) next to my computer and it is jumping all over the place from 115 to 122. It is usually pretty stable.

Because of the ongoing issues with WW high/low voltage I have an analog meter in the garage that I monitor.

RE: UPC...My unit is a PowerTripp from Costco.  Not long ago the voltage screen started jumping all over, much like you are describing.  Still seems to work though.  I have changed the battey in it once.

Edison just called and said problem is fixed.  It was something in the substation that did not reset.  This has happened up here before.  Last time my dryer motor overheated and shutdown.  That is how I found the problem last time.

Voltage at the house is now holding steady at 125.5.

I would have told them 125.5 gallons of volts per second, when he repeats it someone else can laugh.

It happened again today at 0635 today. Computer battery backup began beeping and shutdown the computer.  I metered the voltage and watched it go from 130 to 142 at its peak.  Called Edison and they again confirmed that they have an ongoing problem at the substation in WW that is causing excessive high voltages.  I got a callback from one of the repairman (same one as last time) who is very aware of the problem and says we need to keep reporting it when it happens to make sure they get the equipment replaced.  Voltage is back to 125. 

He also told me that if there was damage to any of my home appliances or equipment to call and file a claim.
