Yes, I work for UIA. We aren't ready to service customers yet, but the permit process is close to completion. Hopefully spring/summer will see the first section installed.

Any updates on the Fiber project?

I see cars parked often at the building at the bottom of Park, which I believe is UIA's main building (no signage up yet that I have noticed).

Very hopeful that things start moving quickly soon.

We're on schedule.  The squirrel resistant fiber is in for the ENTIRE project and is down at the sub contractor's.   Parts are coming in daily.  We will be releasing more information soon.  It's been a very long road to get to this place, and we are excited to be on schedule.

With all of the interest in Fiber, Im wondering if these guys can be a good substitute for the copper lines of Frontier?

Speaking of "plans"...are there plans/prices in other communities that we could refer to, to get an idea as to monthly cost?

It looks like Residential should be $70 month - Bundled with Voice $95

Activation and installation (all types): Waived
Modem charge: No monthly residential equipment fee
Voice service includes unlimited calling in United States and Canada

Cheapskate, are you talking about pricing for UIA?  The pricing is $70 per month for unlimited bandwidth.  We also can offer a VOIP phone for an additional $25 per month.  There is no tax on the Internet part (not yet anyway), but there is tax on the VOIP phone service.  There is no cost for installation, with the exception being if you need a wifi extender in your home.  We offer that for a $40 one time fee.  And there is no contract.  It's a month to month agreement.

$70/mo...wow, quite the bargain. Thanks for the response.  Like so many others, I "can't wait"  :-)

I am so envious!  Any chance this can extend out to West Cajon Valley?  Along 138, between Hwy. 2 and the Forest Service station?  I know traditional cable won't arrive before we retire and move away; right now we have satellite TV and satellite internet, and internet is just OK as to speed.  The broadcast internet available to the flat portions of Phelan is blocked by the ridge north of 138.  Satellite or dialup are the only choices, so far as I know - some time back I was told that the phone lines were unable to provide DSL, but I never asked again.

There must be a couple of hundred households that would be interested.

Starting out for our walk today, ran into a couple of guys surveying the lines on our property. Their cars had "Optimum, Inc" logo on them. They said they were working for Charter, " . . . measuring the lines to pull fiber." He said, "You have Charter here, right?" I said, "Well, it was Verizon, now Frontier - is it now Charter?" He nods his head. Hummmm  . . .  I wonder, he did not seem to know anything about UIA . . . (?)

Charter is the cable TV company in Wrightwood...I'm pretty sure they still offer early 90s copper coaxial cable, if there's an internet component I'm sure ain't modern broadband.  I NEVER thought they'd see an upside to investing $$$ to upgrade our tiny, remote town.  Perhaps I'm happily wrong.  And perhaps they are anticipating a serious competitive threat from UIA. :-)

As far as I know Charter is not in Wrightwood at all, maybe we can get an update from lzuber as to when we can actually expect the UIA system to be up and running, which part of town will it be in first, etc.... Anything to get away from frontier would be great for all involved.

Charter's in for cable TV, but not for internet.  I called them once to ask.
