Came up the 15 this morning to go to Victorville
Can't believe how much burned
Just came back down the 15
2 big areas burning
One along the 15 down near the 215 interchange
And One That Looks To Be ABOVE WRIGHTWOOD
For those wanting to go back home....you can't get in until they lift the mandatory evacuation order
Maybe be a couple days yet for wrightwood the

I have been in contact with some friends in Silicon Valley who have been doing their own monitoring of the fire.

Regarding the winds:
Currently SSW are pushing the fire back.  it will move toward SW this afternoon but pick up speed.  Worry here is embers getting blown around.  Midday tomorrow is going to be an issue as the wind is going to change about 5 hours to SSE/ESE and pick up at that time.  Its to go back to SSW around 3 PM.  In conclusion, a critical time for Wrightwood will be mid-day tomorrow.

SBSD - Headquarters
Advisory: Bluecut Fire Evacuations lifted for East Oak Hills and South Hesperia; see below for updated road closures

Evacuations Lifted For East Oak Hills and South Hesperia
Immediate Release
August 18, 2016

Effective Thursday August 18, at 1:00 p.m., the mandatory evacuation orders and advisories for residents in the areas east of I-15 to Santa Fe/Summit Valley Road, south of Ranchero Road to Highway 138, affected by the Blue Cut Fire will be lifted.

Santa Fe/Summit Valley Road and Arrowhead Lake Road/Hwy173 will be opened.

Hwy 138 will continue to be closed at I15 East to Summit Valley Road.

We appreciate all the people who evacuated in this area. The Blue Cut Fire is burning very aggressively and at one time posed a real danger to residents living in these areas.

We ask that residents returning to the evacuation zone exercise caution. Firefighters, engines, and heavy equipment continue to operate in the area. The San Bernardino County Sheriff will continue enhanced patrols through these areas with additional units.

The remaining mandatory evacuations will be lifted as soon as the danger to residents has been reduced.

Chet,
I have a question about wind direction. When you refer to SSW, is that the direction the wind is coming from or going towards?

Lynnc.. A SW wind is coming from the Southwest and heads to the NE.  So, for most of this fire zone the SW wind will push it back to the East. Topography can impact that a good bit.  Wrightwood's post from the AQMD.. explains it further.

Firefly.. None of us heard what you said/ // um er typed.. um er thought.

Looting is a technical legal charge. I think, emphasis think, that because the Governor has declared a 'state of emergency' theft in the evac areas would be considered looting.. otherwise it's theft/burglary. During the Rodney King riots there was a lot of what most of us think of as looting.  Some of those thieves got off because it wasn't technically looting.   Must wonder how these thieves got into the evac area???  They're all from the down the hill. cheryl o7o

What does "branch" vs "division denote?  cheryl o7o
It's a way of keeping the span of control manageable. We break a fire into Divisions. Once the fire gets big enough...we break into branches. A branch director manages a number of divisions. When the fire gets bigger, it's divided into zones.  It's a system with a common language that allow the incident to rapidly ramp up and scale down when the need is no longer there.

Whoever posted the video of the Clyde Ranch, a huge thank you.  The barn, 2 sheds and the Earp cabin are gone.  I have pictures that I took about 2 years ago when I began a history of the ranch.  Oh, who am I?  My 2gr grandma was Eliza Singleton Robinson Anderson Ousterhaut.  She was Priscilla Singleton Clyde's sister.  Priscilla married Almon Clyde.  Thank you for the video.  Was that Gary Hopkins who took this video?  He is about the only person who knew the ranch this well.

This is link to the live video from the ABC7 helicopter...which is handy since it's independent from whatever they are showing on the news.  Of course, the helicopter is keeping near portions of the fire that they can cut to throughout the news broadcast, but it's better than little clips here and there on the news: http://abc7.com/live/23340/

Jim.. thanks for that info. I sort of thought that .. but I did not want to guess.  So, I can ignore those indications on the map and pay attention to the fire's perimeter.

Ranch Historian... sorry you lost some of your family's treasured memories. Glad to read you have a lot of pictures.

And, someone here posted earlier that the 138 was closed from Phelan Road to the 15. Inciweb is still stating that the 138 is closed from County Line to Hwy 173 (east of the 15).  Any updates?   cheryl o7o

Of course, while they were watching the fire progress towards the wild animal refuge on the south side of the wash near Devore they zoomed out and went black.  Last time it was up this morning, once they had to go back and refuel they flew over the ANF back to the Burbank area with the camera on the whole time.  They didn't shut it off until they were coming up on their airport.  Maybe a different cameraman/pilot after that who isn't as liberal with the online time.

If anyone is reading this, keeping that feed up and live throughout the day does the public a great service that goes beyond the commercial requirements of the broadcast/station.

This is one of the problems with people staying behind.  The Sheriff does not know who is who.  It causes them not to become as suspicious as they would if people abided by the mandatory evacuations.  I don't appreciate it because I left, as was right and the smart thing to do.

For those who think they can save their house with a water hose, they will just create temporary steam, before it catches fire.  These fires were happening even when retardant was dropped.  Bad luck is bad luck, the wildfire that is.
