Any new info on the checkpoint up at Big Pines? Can we enter there now and what wait times are to be expected?

There now seems to be a lot more helicopter traffic above - what does that mean?

I've noticed that too. I assume that would be Cal Fire scanning the area for spot fires and flare-ups using FLIR.

To people asking about N4 / Mt. High side -- I have no idea. You can absolutely come via the 138 and 2. The only thing we had to do coming north on the 15 is overshoot the 138, get off on 395 and come back around to 138 that way.

I did read that some people were let through at Big Pines. Entry does require ID and/or proof of residency.

Good afternoon, Wrightwood families,

As the Blue Cut Fire is gradually getting under control, I sincerely hope this message finds you all safe and appreciating all that is most important.  Sadly, many people in our community lost their homes or other property in the fire. If you or someone you know is in any need of support at all, please lean on your Snowline School District family.  We have access to many resources, and we are here for you to provide any support that is needed.  Feel free to email me at john_garner@snowlineschools.com to inform me of ways we can be of assistance.  You may also call 760-539-3093 for County assistance.

I received notice from the San Bernardino Sheriff that evacuations in Wrightwood have been reduced to voluntary for residents. Verification must be shown to be allowed to re-enter town.

The West Cajon Valley is still under mandatory evacuation at this time, but I hope those residents will be able to return to their homes soon.

Announcements about the re-opening of Snowline schools will come as soon as all factors can be assessed.

Thank you, and I hope to see all of our students soon.

John Garner
Principal
Wrightwood Elementary School

There now seems to be a lot more helicopter traffic above - what does that mean?

There's an active wildfire burning that is only 73% perimeter contained and lots of islands of vegetation that hasn't burned.
Containment does not mean the fire is out.

Expect to smell and see smoke for days along with Fire Trucks, Fire Fighters and helicopter activity.

The uncontained fire line on Gobblers Knob is 2.2 miles from the easternmost house on Lone Pine Canyon.

Same road closures that were in place when you went to bed last night.  New announcements will be made today but you can go out 2 to 138 and then where you need to go.
