Remember the presentations a couple of years back about this fire retardant gel that could be applied to houses, etc.? This man used it. We drove by his place and it really is remarkable to see it sitting untouched surrounded by blackened acres. And the fire had to pass his place before it got north to us! Defensible Space saved us, but this gel could be another choice for some. Given the destruction others experienced nearby, we were truly impressed.

Thank you for your article in this month's News Plus. Excellently written. Loved reading how you declined the PIO offer, even after initially accepting, as soon as you observed what was coming your way, and started preparations to evac immediately. And even with that foresight, benefit of experience, and acting asap, your admission, "I thought we would have enough time to get the trailers in....but with a fire like this, the only thing you could do was get the heck out."

I am so relieved you all (two-leggeds and four-leggeds) were able to get out safely, and that the ranch was in tact for you to return home. I hope your article is read and re-read by as many people possible. Thanks again, for everything you do. Sagespirit

After every major wild land fire near any urban area, utilities scramble to get things restored as quickly as possible. Gas, electric, phone, roads....are labor intensive and require round the clock effort to get the most basic services back. This photo is just the Southern California Edison effort and is everybody at their Base Camp (I'm guessing at Glen Helen like the fire camp) They look to be self contained for 24 hour ops and use the Incident Command system to manage an incredible effort. Think of the surveying of the damage....having the engineers get involved....ordering the "stuff"....keeping track of the "stuff" as they prepare to install it....removing the burnt poles and wire and sub stations and installing new ones. It's a job that most don't see or even think of but we'd be in a world of hurt without their professional efforts. Success to them is seeing lights flicker on where it was dark last night.

All the utilities are doing their part as well....trying to get folks back to as much "normal" as possible. I've worked with all of them on so many occasions and I salute their professionalism. They all were out there well before the fire was out and the smoke was gone. Great job!

Crews were headed to forest road 3N31 for smoke showing. Well within Blue Cut Fire perimeter.
(3N31 starts just above Clyde Ranch and runs along the ridge line)

Blue Cut BAER Assessment Report Released

On September 16, 2016, the San Bernardino National Forest received $492,975 for emergency stabilization measures on Forest Service System lands burned by the Blue Cut Fire. The emergency treatments and activities are designed to decreased possible impacts to downstream values-at-risk from the Blue Cut burned area such as: human life and safety, property, critical natural resources and cultural resources.
