...running roughly east and west over the mountains.  A squadron of 4-6 last night, and at least a couple tonight.  No idea exactly what they are, but they do have their lights on.  Just an observation, and perhaps a prelude to one of their low-altitude runs over Wrightwood.

The large aircraft have been going over at night for years.
They wake me up.
Probably moving from one base or staging area to another.

It's the first of the year, Everyone is trying to get the flight skins in or the lose it, in English there flight pay. First part of the quarters there is increase of flight activity and then there's the war games that bring every one to So. Cal.
Everyone enjoy the sound of freedom and have a great week

There has been a change in the high altitude transit of our area for civilian jets as well that has resulted in Lake Arrowhead being up in arms over the continued noise of large jets turning over their mountains into Ontario.  They had a big meeting with FAA up there explaining why the change. We have have noticed that the inbound jets pretty much cut a corner around Baden powell and fly right over us near Mtn Top.    They are much louder then the old flight path which took them North of 138 and turning around Lucerne and Big Bear. The military flight corridor continues to provide us with enjoyment as the fighters whiz by in twos and threes.  Miss the old days when the F-4 Phantom pilots from George would buzz town at tree top levels.

True!

In a nutshell, the FAA has streamlined approach/departure routes to handle more traffic, and be "more efficient". Known as NexGen

Lake Arrowhead residents are in a tither because the jets now turn over their lake instead of a wilderness area for round the clock jet noise.  Feinstein made the FAA go to a town meeting and explain to them why it's really a good deal ( a first in FAA history....they usually avoid town meetings).  They, of course, want it back the way it used to be.  One resident said it sounded like living next to LAX.
