Boy howdy!  That's a lot of 'far left' sabre-rattling in one article. Newsom was only sworn in a few hours ago.  I do want him to be just as stingy as Brown. It was Brown that got us out of debt here in CA. Not that I agreed entirely with the way he did it. I'm also not sure I wouldn't support reducing the two-thirds requirement to fifty-five percent. There is such a thing as the tyranny of the minority.

Here's another piece on a tax proposal that is going nowhere in the near term. But, the dose of reality as to what it actually means versus how it's being described is refreshing:

The link you provided is simply the progressives wanting to return to the 1970s tax rates. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez (economics BA degree) assumes there will be a "windfall" that can be spent on gov't green programs. I seem to recall Reagan's cut in tax rates (passed by a Dem house) increased collected revenue substantially, the econ BA doesn't seem to understand the risk in returning to the bad old days.

Dem Senate and Assembly members aren't dumb; rather than vote their hearts, they put the lower threshold for taxation on the ballot to see if the people of CA will approve it. And they will, if recent history is a guide (see you at the polls, Cheryl, we'll cancel each other, ha!)

Cheapskate:  I think the lowering of the two-thirds requires a vote as it's changing the state constitution (Prop. 13).  I liked the Hiltzik column because it put the proposal in context and explained what the proposal is and isn't.

And, don't be assuming we'll cancel each other's vote. But, I'll definitely see you at the polls.  Cheryl o7o

Only currently if you are referring to the "PC" folks!

I'm not sure this belongs in this thread. But, it is an example of spending priorities that are near and dear to our hearts.
