I drove up to MH North on my way from Jackson Lake area through WW at around 3:30p+-. Looks like Columbia Helicopter Corp is setting up shop. It was very early on and only one support vehicle was there in the beginning stages of set up.
Grabbed a quick photo of the helicopter LZ at MH North. Taken at around 11:45am today, 9/14/2020

Sorry, but I'm pretty convinced and am going to go ahead and say that the handling of these two fires has been a likely verifiable, colossal F-up.

That's a heartbreaking picture. I know they've done a lot of work there. I hope it pays off. Joe Schmoe:  What would you like to see that you aren't seeing on the fire?  Cheryl

Acreage this morning is 41,231 with 3% containment. Crews worked all night to keep the fire from reaching Mt. Wilson and the communities. Reduced containment is due to fire growth without our being able to increase containment lines. #BobcatFire

Joseph Elfelt @MappingSupport
Tuesday 9/15 #BobcatFire LA County 41,231 acres per 8:59pm infrared flight yesterday. Satellite hotspot data is *always* several hours old, locations approximate and might include false positives. See 2 links upper left corner. #CAwx

Per radio traffic

The fire is making a significant push at Highway 2 and is now well-established across the highway in the Cooper Canyon area. That part is estimated to be between 500 and 1,000 acres. Firefighters are dealing with erratic winds.

My observations of the weather, the activity and inactivity of aerial firefighting hardware as it related to the weather (which I am observing on the internet and with my eyes), the timing of decisions and the decisions themselves.  In turn, I'll pose a question to you (and Jim, to be clear, I do defer to and value your extensive experience), without your old hat on if possible, what is your opinion on how this has and is proceeding?  Because this seems out of the realm of normal even given some new climate realities.  As if our firefighters are being overpowered.

I mean, they set up a last line of defense on ACH, a ridge where winds tend to blow north every day and now it's on the north side of ACH with nothing but more unburned forest between there and Juniper Hills.  Frankly, if I were residents there I'd be worried.

Firefighting planes continue to work on the ridge on the east side of the fire.  Only thing visible to the internet on the north side is the helicopter based in Wrightwood.

I see tankers that used to be out of San Bernardino airport now working out of Santa Maria and Paso Robles on fires well north of here.  They ARE overwhelmed, yet I have yet to hear and admission of that.

I'm not Jim and also bow to his and others experience.

That said, I'm looking at the flightradar link and there are multiple drops and multiple aircraft on the north side. If I'm reading it right.  The flare-up near Copper Canyon is headed for Juniper Hills - it it goes due North.   The wind there and on the area of the 2 is SW.  It's predicted to be 5-10 & 15 tonight and tomorrow.  There was burn on parts of that area in the Station Fire.  I'm also looking at the east side near the 39.  There's a few hot spots there as well that seem to have jumped the 39. I'm not sure.
