Scorpions?
« on: Aug 22, 05, 06:40:42 PM »
Two in the last 24 hours 1st one stung my daughter in her bedroom last night, second one in the back yard today. Is this normal? Do they just like my house for some reason? Is it mating season or something? How do I get rid of them?

I saw one on the carpet in our house once - I learned not to walk barefoot at night in the dark.

Hi WWDreamn,
How is your daughter?  Did she get ill???  What did you do for her?

They are here!!!!Several weeks ago I had one in our garage.  Last year I had one in my upstairs closet & one outside in the dirt in my flower box.

Make sure not to leave shoes laying around -I have also found one in a pair of shoes in my garage....check carefully before putting on.

Oh man, scorpions freak me out!!!!!!

As you discovered, local scorpions can deliver a sting very similar to a bee sting but seldom cause complications beyond local pain, redness and some slight swelling.  Bark Scorpions that are found in the Arizona  desert have a much more potent venom and potential for injury or death.

Scorpions hunt at night.  Take a black light and walk around the house and yard.  The scorpion will glow bright white....something in their exoskelton (or whatever it is called) really glows.  You certainly could also call an exterminator for thorough removal of scorpions.  They can come into your house on the most minute of cracks or openings.  Sealing those will help.

We've lived here for 32 years and had the first scorpion inside our house two weeks ago.  Picked him up on a piece of paper and shooed him out of the house.

Thanks for your concern, my daughter is fine. As wildman said, it was just like a bee sting, mostly just freaked us all out.

How about the stuff you can buy and spray the perimiter of the house would that at least deter them from coming in?

You could check with Mike at Mountain Hardware....he might have a product that will include Scorpions on their list of bugs affected.  I know that products containing Dursban are common and safe to use around the home.

Happy to hear your daughter is fine!  I know it must have scared you so much!  Glad to hear she is doing good.

Found one in my garage a couple years ago.  My dad and his friend who has lived here 20 years assured me it must have hitched a ride home from a desert Jeep trip because there are no scorpions in Wrightwood.  Never thought about it again until reading this.  Looks like they were wrong.

Scorpians are not  new to Wrightwood. I remember seeing them all over when I was kid in the 50's

finally made it to the hardware store today and got an insecticide that says it works on scorpions. Hope it is true. I will let you know.

Found two little guys prowling the driveway this evening.  Went and got a little battery operated black light and they glowed like little Halloween lanterns.  Went looking for more but no joy.

I have had two scorpions in my garage in two days.  Has anyone seen any on there property or in there house lately.  Is it rare to see them here?  I live near the Pacific Crest development can this be stirring them up?

I am so freaking out!   Almost stepped on one last night.  I have called for an exterminator in hopes that will be successful to rid of them.

Two years ago one stung my cat, so they are around. I've never seen one and that's fine with me. I'm in the Pinon Mesa area.

I don't believe there are any poisonous ones in California.
Not that it wouldn't hurt if they stung you, but that's about it.

Last year I came across about 15-20 during the summer. This year I have seen none down here in pinon hills. *Knocks on wood*

sorry Sandman......I wacked them good! lol's

We did too... It's creepy seeing thoes ugly things coming at you so what do you do? Find the nearest object and wack them good. ::) Now if I came across one I would try to relocate them.

there was one in our backyard a few weeks ago. it was about this time last year that my daughter was stung by one that was in her bedroom and we saw another in the yard shortly there after. We are always on the lookout for them around here. we are also on the eastside of town, I thought it maybe because we back up to the wash, but I am starting to think it is just common for them to be around.
