Maytag Announces Recall of Millions of Its Dishwashers

AP

WASHINGTON, February 1, 2007 - The Maytag repair man has a lot of work ahead of him.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday that Maytag is voluntarily recalling two-and-a-third million dishwashers sold under the brand names of Maytag and Jenn-Air because of a fire hazard.

The safety commission says liquid rinse-aid can leak from its dispenser and come in contact with the dishwasher's internal wiring, causing a short-circuit and fire. Maytag says it's had 135 reports of dishwasher fires.

The machines were sold at stores nationwide between July 1997 and June 2001.

Maytag is offering either a free in-home repair or a $75 cash-back reimbursement with the purchase of a new Maytag-brand dishwasher.

We have a friend in Wrightwood that has the same dishwasher as ours and told us to check it after reading the post.

So there's at least 2 of them in Wrightwood and I'm sure more of them.

Thanks Bob!

So don't expect to follow their directions and be satisfied  :'(

The website gives an 800 number and states to call anytime for more information

I went through their entire phone voice recognition system that asked for the model number and serial number one character at a time. Heard it read back and then I confirmed it.

After going through this annoying process the message then abruptly ends and says to call back during normal business hours. Absoultley no information was given or confirmed.

Don't you just love those systems  >:( I hate them... I rather talk to a phone operator from India that can hardly speak English. Ok so back to the topic.

Well I tried again and spent 10 minutes going through their voice recognition system and once that was completed it said I was being transferred to a representative. Then the next message said they were too busy and call back later and hung up.

Isn't that aggravating?  Gee, I can remember, waaaaay back, when a person could call a business, and have the phone answered by an actual, helpful human!

Good luck getting your issue resolved!

Talked with the Wrightwood friend tonight who informed me that our dishwasher was probably on the recall list.

She finally got through to a human being today and they gave her another "special" 800 number to call. She was on hold for something like an 1 hour 45 minutes late this afternoon when a lady finally answered. After explaining her frustration the lady, she was told that she'd be connected to get help. She was then transfered back into the voice recognition system.

Now there's some real customer service!

Sounds like they are going to have a lot of their customers anxious to spend their $75 recall money on a new Maytag/Jenn-Air dishwasher.........NOT! ::)

I ran to look at mine as I was really hopin' my dishwasher wasn't a maytag as the brainiaks that lived here before us laid wood floor & set counter tile in such a manner that the dishwasher is trapped!

All it would have took was a little common sense by the one who installed it ... Its not like it is rocket science.  ;)
