Containment rises to 95% as firefighters continue to construct and improve fire control lines around the fire perimeter.
The incident has transitioned out of Unified Command and will be manage by the Angeles National Forest. On behalf of all the agencies involved, we want to thank the area residents of Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties for their cooperation during the incident.

San Bernardino County has approved a significant organizational change to its Fire Hazard Abatement (FHA) Program, transferring day-to-day program administration from the Land Use Services Department (LUS) to the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District (SBCFPD), effective July 1, 2026. The transition was approved by the Board of Supervisors and the Board of Directors of the Fire Protection District on June 23, 2026.

Inspections for San Bernardino County Fire Hazard Abatement Program have not started in Wrightwood for 2026.

Cause: Under Investigation

Current Situation: Firefighters continue to make steady progress on the Summit Fire, actively constructing and reinforcing control lines to increase containment.

Dry conditions have resulted in low relative humidities with minimal overnight recovery. These conditions, combined with exposure to direct sunlight and high temperatures, may reveal once-dormant heat sources across the incident.
Weather: A hot weather pattern remains over the incident today, bringing elevated risks for heat-related illnesses alongside onshore winds that are expected to generate southerly gusts of 25 to 35 mph. While a Red Flag Warning is currently in effect for areas northwest of the Summit Fire, no warning is active for the immediate incident footprint, and the threat of thunderstorms has significantly decreased compared to yesterday. Personnel and the public are urged to remain vigilant, stay hydrated, and practice heat safety.

Current Situation: Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of crews and staff the operational objective has progressed to focus on keeping the within its current footprint. Predicted fire activity today is minimal. A low probability of thunderstorms lingers in the background and thevegetation remains highly receptive to ignition. Heavy fire and maintenance equipment will be working within and around the fire and residents are urged to drive with caution.

Fire Weather: An Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect through Thursday evening, with highs in the 90s increasing the risk of heat illness. A moderate chance of thunderstorms today could bring lightning, brief heavy rain, and sudden 40–50 mph wind gusts. Stronger southerly winds are expected Thursday, and no Red Flag Warning is currently planned for the Summit Fire. This prolonged heat, combined with steep, rocky terrain and narrow roads, presents significant hazards.

Tomorrow’s Outlook: Crews will continue mopping up hot spots and patrolling control lines. Sustained heat and receptive fuels may reactivate previously dormant heat sources. Recent burn areas and the continued efforts of ground and air crews will mitigate the likelihood of flare ups or new ignitions.

LLANO, Calif. (VVNG.com) — Illegal fireworks have been identified as the cause of the Summit Fire that burned nearly 2,700 acres along the Los Angeles and San Bernardino county line, according to San Bernardino County Fire Assistant Chief Kelly Anderson.

Anderson, who serves as the Assistant Chief of the North Desert Division for the San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, made the announcement Monday, July 13, during the City of Adelanto’s Fireworks Workshop.

The Summit Fire ignited on Friday, July 10, near Jesus Canyon Road East and Avenue Z in the Llano area of Los Angeles County. Fueled by dry vegetation, hot temperatures and gusty winds, the fire spread rapidly, prompting evacuation orders and warnings in portions of Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties while drawing a massive multiagency response.

Current Situation
Firefighters continue making progress building control lines and putting out hot spots. Interior pockets of the Summit Fire continue to burn while larger fuels smolder and produce visible smoke. Heavy annual rainfall has created a dense fuel bed, and recent winds, high temperatures, and low relative humidities have rapidly dried out thinner, smaller fuels, creating a highly receptive fuel bed. Suppression crews are operating in steep, rocky terrain, while narrow roads present additional driving hazards. CAL FIRE Damage Inspection Teams (DINS) have completed approximately 90% of the assessments.

Fire Weather
A Heat Advisory remains in effect until Tuesday morning, when an Extreme Heat Warning takes effect through Thursday evening. The incident footprint will transition into an Extreme Heat Warning beginning at 10:00am Tuesday, increasing the risk of heat-related illness for ground personnel.

Tomorrow's Outlook
Operational priorities will focus on maintaining strict safety protocols amidst the intense heat while monitoring for potential thunderstorm development. Crews will remain vigilant for erratic outflow winds and dry lightning, which could cause unpredictable fire behavior, while continuing to navigate the hazards of steep terrain and rolling debris.
Crews will continue strengthening control lines and mopping up hot spots. They will also identify secondary control line locations.

Crews are currently holding containment lines steady, mopping up hot spots, and no further fire growth is expected.
The Summit Fire Unified Command has announced that Evacuation Warnings (ready to evacuate at a moment’s notice) will remain in effect for Zones LAC-E107-A and LAC-E127-C until further notice. This cautious approach is due to active incoming winds, potential interior fire behavior, and a heavy presence of emergency vehicles operating throughout the area. Road closures will also remain in place. Keeping these warnings active ensures that both fire crews and the public remain safe while critical operations continue.

Although all Evacuation Orders were downgraded Sunday, active winds mean residents may still see localized smoke and brief interior flare-ups. Because these flare-ups are well inside the established burn area, they pose no threat to containment lines. CAL FIRE Damage Inspection (DINS) personnel have already begun safely accessing cleared zones to validate structure counts, and officials thank the community for their continued cooperation as personnel work to fully secure the area.

* IMPACTS...There is a high risk for dangerous heat illness for

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Humid conditions will add to the heat to
potentially worsen heat impacts. Effects of the heat will build
through the week, with warm overnight low temperatures providing
little relief from the heat.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of
the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car
interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.

Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose
fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning
or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and
heat stroke.

To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and
Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in
shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat
should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an
emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Current Situation: Firefighters have stopped forward progress on the Summit Fire. Crews continue to mop up hot spots and build containment lines. As tactical objectives are met, Unified Command successfully downgraded and lifted several Evacuation Orders and Evacuation Warnings today, significantly reducing the number of threatened structures. CAL FIRE Damage Inspection (DINS) personnel successfully accessed cleared portions of the affected area today, providing validated updates to the damaged and destroyed structure counts.

Fire Weather: The fire area experienced significant wind activity; however, there was minimal perimeter growth today. Active fire behavior remains confined to the interior of the fire footprint. Pockets of unburned fuel continue to consume, and heavy fuels are smoldering, producing localized smoke. Isolated single-tree torching was observed well within the interior perimeter, posing no threat to established containment lines.

Tomorrow’s Outlook: Winds are expected to stay active over the next 24 hours, but crews are holding the fire lines steady. Fire growth is not expected. There is expected to be smoke and even some brief flare-ups (like individual trees catching fire), but this is all well inside the areas that have already burned.

Evacuations: All Evacuation Orders have been lifted. Evacuation Warnings remain for Zones LAC-E107-A and LAC-E127-C
