Calendula Herb
« on: Apr 22, 08, 01:44:03 AM »
Does anyone know anything about this herb? Will it grow up here? Where to get it...etc.

The reason I ask is cuz I was reading a holistic dog journal and it said that Calendula helps aid in digestion and my bulldog has gas!!!

Anyone have any info?

I don't know how to put web-sites on these pages so you can click on it.  but here is the site that has some information.

www.herb2000.com/herbs/herbs_calendula

i hope it helps.  if calendula does help with the gas problem, let me know, my dog has a serious gas problem...wish i could capture it; that would solve America's gas shortage.

This journal named it the "herb of the year" for holistic dog treatments. It can be used to aid digestion, as a first aid wash or spray, or as a rinse to alleviate itchy skin. Besides my bulldogs gas, one of the dogs that I'm fostering has skin problems and I thought this might be a good alternative to the cortizone pills that Ive taken her off of.

It says that the rinse will stain a white dogs coat but brings out highlights in darker coats. I want to try it but to make a rinse, the calendula has to soak in olive oil for a month in the sun.

This journal is really cool in that it offers holistic ways to treat your pets allergies or whatever other problems they might have. It wont accept donations from any company. Its funded only by its readers and its only $20 a year. Its called "The Whole Dog Journal" if any of you are interested in supporting it

BTW Danny.....dont try to blame the gas on your dog!!

I'm a little confused by the site. Do you have to pay for the articles if you're a subscriber, or just those who are not? I think what they've touched on is interesting and I'd like to subscribe but not if I have to pay twice.

Ok, I emailed them and here's the reply:

"In response to your inquiry yes all back articles must be purchased to download and print for $7.50.
As a subscriber you can only access the current and last month for free if you register first.
"

The articles look really good, but that's a little rich for me if you have to pay for each of the back articles. With no advertising, I'm sure it's harder to make ends meet...

As for the calendula, Sagebrush, you might be able to find plants down the hill, but for sure you can order seeds online. Here's a couple of the 'big box' online seed houses:

www.parkseed.com
www.burpee.com

Heyyyyy, come on now.  It really is my dog, Buddy.  I'm just glad he's not anywhere near our fireplace when he does it; I can see it now, front page of Mountaineer, "Home explodes in WW, natural gas leak".

Regarding gas: my sister went in to the gas station attendant.  Handed him (or her) $5 and said, "I need $5 worth of gas".  The attendant f_ _ ted and gave her a receipt.

Sagebrush, if you find it works let me know.  I'll pick some up for myself........opps, I mean Buddy.
