Beautiful Ice Crystal Formation...
« on: Dec 09, 07, 11:48:27 PM »
I don't know anything about this phenomenon, and haven't seen it before:

It really seems to be ice--it melts immediately in my hand.  I have no reason to think it's biological.  It forms on bare sticks (no bark).  I'd assume they form when there's no wind and perhaps when thick, icy fog is present...

All beautiful photos.  Wonder if I am going to get any ice this year down the hill.  Last year I was shocked that we had icy sidewalks where the sprinklers had been running.  I slipped on it two days in a row - just did not fathom ice in North Hollywood!

Well, I was so hoping that this morning would be my chance to find some Frost Flowers...but all that I could find was Spikes.
Kind of a cool phenom how the water just squeezes out of the ground and freezes.
Mother Nature is just too cool.

I'm just glad we are starting to see the ground finally. :2thumbsup:
