Wow that is weird!  I never knew about those problems before and I have come across this plant before!

From a distance it looks similar to Lavendar.

From a distance it looks similar to Lavendar.

From a distance
You look like my friend
Even though we are at war
From a distance
I just cannot comprehend
What all this fightings for
From a distance
There is harmony
And it echoes through the land
And its the hope of hopes
Its the love of loves
Its the heart of every man

I've encountered this plant many times while hiking in our forest.  I don't know if I've ever touched one or not - probably, but not on purpose (passing by them on a trail, for instance).  If I did come in contact with them, it didn't affect me.  My friend calls those plants "stinky flower" cuz they have kind of an obnoxious odor, especially when there is a large group of them.  They are pretty - I love that color of purple!

I received this information from a person who spent a great deal of time working at Grassy Hollow:

It still blooms (but in less profusion) even though there hasn't been a fire.  The largest concentration for several years was on the PCT just west of Grassy Hollow at the lookout to the desert dry lakes just before the PCT joins the frontage road to Jackson Flat.  It also appears near Inspiration Point.

This is kind of important and I know a lot of people skip the photo room...?????

Perhaps misplaced in my humble opinion.

If we can save one photographer from taking photos of their young ones romping through a field of poodle-dogs then it worked. The News and Announcement was posted first but does not allow for follow up posts.

I'm not aware of anyone who skips the photo room  ???

Hey there WW,
Is there a way that I can get you to send this to my email (at home, since our internet at BP has died, yet again) I will post this in the office along with the pictures and send it down to the D/O for the folks there. Might help out our patrols and folks out in the burn area's from the Buckweed fire.
the web link doesn't have the pictures.
Thanksssss
