Big Horn Fire - Mt Bady 5-13-08

From a Yahoo talk group:

Mount Baldy fire called the Big Horn Fire. Took off around 6am
this morning.. Pretty good plume of smoke although at this time brush is still a tad wet from the early morning dew....gonna heat up
somewhat today then really get hot. I'm sure the fire guys are trying
like heck to get a line around this one fast.....looks to be from 50
to maybe 80 acres at this time.....

6:32 a.m.: 20-acre blaze prompts Mt. Baldy Village evacuation

MT. BALDY - Residents of Mt. Baldy Village are being evacuated due to a 20-acre brush fire that is threatening homes in the village, fire dispatchers said. The fire was reported at 4:45 a.m. near Mt. Baldy Road and Glendora Ridge Road, said Ed Pickett, supervising fire dispatcher for Los Angeles County Fire Department. About 200 Los Angeles and San Bernardino County firefighters were battling the blaze, along with the U.S. Forest Service and Mt. Baldy volunteer firefighters. San Bernardino County sheriff's deputies were handling evacuations.

Two stranded hikers were just extracted from the area by LA Cty Copter 16.

San Bernardino County Fire dispatched a thermo Gel Task force of 5 "type 4" patrols and 1 water tender to the fire for structure protection.

Fire started at 0430 hours this morning, north of Mt. Baldy in Bear Canyon/Bear Flats area.  Fire is currently burning in the Bear Creek
drainage.  Now at 100 acres with no containment.  240 personnel on scene, 5 helicopters.  Structure protection in place.  Mandatory evac. for Bear Canyon community, mainly recreation cabins.  Heavy fuels, high winds.  Winds now at 15-20 MPH, with gusts to 50 MPH.

FS Type II Incident Management Team to take over incident at 1800 hours. ICP to be located at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas.

My mom lives in the village and is not answering her phone-she stayed home today. Are they evacuating the village yet?
