Keller Peak 2 meter repeater

In reference to the Keller Peak repeater as of 2-10-09

Hello everyone, We have been on battery back-up since Friday Morning. I have been in contact with SCE but they won't give me a an estimated time that the repairs will be made. The conditions up there are pretty bad. We have two more big storms coming in. The first one Thursday morning and the next on Sunday. So either way if the SCE folks don't get the power restored by Thursday we might as well forget about them getting up there for another week or so. I have decided that in order to save the batteries from freezing and any more equipment failure due to the low voltage problem I will turn off the repeater for now and turn it on occasionally to check battery status. I hope the SCE folks get the lines repaired by tomorrow but there are no guaranties. Echo link has also been shut off as well as the 1.2 link and the weather receiver.  If there is any emergency of any sort the repeater will be turned on for the duration. I can be reached at 951-833-7323 if there are any concerns or questions. I will leave the repeater on for a little while this evening to give everyone a chance to coordinate a simplex frequency or another local repeater.

Thanks to all of you very much for understanding our caution.

Keller Peak 2 meter repeater is on battery power again.

2-16-09
Hi Everyone, I wanted to let everyone know that we are once again on Battery power. I have spoken to SCE and they weren't even aware of a problem. He will check the system and call me back. In the mean time i'm pretty sure we have had enough time to hopefully re-charge the batteries from the last outage. I would still let folks know that want to talk just to have something to do. We should be ok for a couple of weeks running the nets in a normal manner. Hopefully this will get fixed quickly and we won't have to limit the use like last time.

Once again I would like to thank you for your cooperation.

Hi again everyone,

I spoke to the technician that went up to the site. He said the same line had iced up and broke at the same spot as before. It was too late for them to do any work tonight. Chuck said that now that he knows what the problem is, he will get together a large crew and head up the hill tomorrow morning. Chuck said he thinks he will get the power restored sometime in the afternoon. So we can go about our business as usual on their repeater and hopefully we will be back on AC power by tomorrow night.

Well we are back up on AC again. The folks at SCE modified the poles with lumber instead of the aluminum alloy arms in several locations to try and fix this problem and hopefully it won't happen again. Just wanted to let everyone know.
