Present published records indicated the the Davidson Arch of old Big Pines Park contained not only a walkway on top, leading tower to tower, but also a small jail cell to contain unruly mountain visitors. Is it rumor or fact? How much do you really know of that so-called jail cell? Where do you think it was, if it ever existed, that is? Perhaps the photo below gives you a hint. Then, again...maybe it doesn't.

The truth comes out in the next Wrightwood Historical Society meeting at Big Pines on Friday.

Can you name this place? Well, at least its current name...yup, the building is still there...even after 45 years.

The "jail" or more accurately the holding area is at the bottom of the North tower and not at the top where the rebar is in the picture.   It is a very small room that is currently full of wood that is used to fire up the the large fireplace in the "historic" Big Pines Lodge.  During the winter the USFS folks and volunteers manning the Big Pines station will gather around the fireplace and do paperwork in front of the raging fire.  Oh, how I love wintertime!

That building is located across from the school and the park on Pine.  Today, the Community Building, park and bank are right behind it to the Northeast.  The Verison building is next door.  Like 70% of the building in town, I believe it is now another Reality office.

Good job, Robert! But the hamburger stand is now part of the Canyon Creek Inn, right across (to the east) of Wrightwood School.

So it is.  I know it used to be a Realty office.  It goes to show how much goes un-noticed when driving down Pine.   ;D

I've taken pictures of inside the remaining tower, including the very narrow stairs to the top and the "holding room" at the bottom.  I'll try to find them and post them.
