The 1915 map of Los Angeles county and Mojave Desert; even the Lone Pine Canyon Road is not identified, where Swarthout's landholding (now called Clyde Ranch) was located. To the upper right is Box S...northwest of "Glen Ranch" was Lone Pine Cyn,

I read that book about Goulding about 10 years ago. Also read a book about this guy who drilled wells in Lucerne Valley and helped build the road over the dry lake between Apple Valley and Rabbit Springs Road.  Those were good books.  Box S was mentioned a lot in both those books.

I can't remember the name of the books but they were at the Apple Valley Library. The guy who drilled the wells resided at Rabbit Springs. I had to look at a map to remember his name because Gobar Rd is named after him. I think one of those two books is called "Raising The Dust".  I remember that Mr. Goulding was called "the father of Lucerne Valley".
