Trail Maintenance

Okay, so hopefully anyone interested in working on the trails and helping out our budget strapped forestry service can hook up here and have some fun. I will post a pic or two from the trail tomorrow, just because it's so dam beautiful out there.
After talking with Frank Trujillo and getting a bit more direction, I will plan some trails to be cleared and as this is a forum, if you know of any bad spots lets do it. Very cool, looking forward to meeting you on the trail....Oh and perhaps we can coordinate as well with the AC 100 mile run group., and ease their pain a bit.

Wow, great info. I appreciate it and will look at all those links. I only did a bit of work today from Inspiration point to Grassy Hollow. The trail was in good shape with the brush removed last season I think. I pretty much raked and policed the trail. My rake was worn down, my boots are worn out and so was I. I will retool and hit the remainder to Baden Powell tomorrow or the next day.

Partially raked trail.

Raked trail.

Trying not to go post crazy here. And I will check with Grassy Hollow before doing anything, but I kind of noticed Grassy Hollow could use a bit of work as well. Perhaps anyone interested and wanting to make it a first project, we could rake the roads and picnic areas surrounding the station and I could haul away to the dump. I see the place gets everyone from bird watchers to elementary school kids and I know if there was one project that would benefit Wrightwood more than clearing the trails that would be it. Let me know what you think and I will let you know what Grassy Hollow says.

You are doing such a service for so many people!  The Angeles Crest 100 race is coming up in July.  I know the runners will be most appreciative of any parts of the trail that are cleaned up for them.  It's a tough race, let alone trying to run on trails with unknown hazards out there.

I'll send you the name of one of the main volunteers up here who might be able to offer some more direction to you.

Thanks for getting out and doing this!

Okay, I just read all the material provided to me by Robert W. Thanks again. I also have spent a considerable amount of time reading online publications about trail maintenance. WOW, who knew there was so much to this. I will continue to learn on line as opposed to the hard way. Looking forward to hitting the trail.
