Tree stump advice needed

It started out as a simple job, repair the broken step at the back door -- and then it happened!

We had a tree taken down a few years ago and I decided that today was the day the stump was coming out.  After some huffing and puffing, I won.

Now, I'm not sure how to handle the hole that is left.  It's not very deep and I thought about wetting it down good then filling it will rocks and soil.  Is there anything else I should do?
