I need your old satellite dish(es)

I have a strange request. I teach at CSUSB. Next quarter I am teaching a STEM education design class. In this class, among other things, my students will be learning how to design STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) units for K-12 schools. They will do this in part by designing and building solar ovens, then writing curriculum to do the same things in their K-12 classrooms.

One idea I would like to have them try is to convert an old unused satellite dish into a paraboloid solar cooker. But I want to try it first!

So if you have an old dish that you don't know what to do with, I would like to make use of it. Just contact me here so I can arrange to pick it up.

Do you need a large satellite dish, or do those little Dish Network ones work?

I would like to try the Dish network size. I should be able to get 1000 watts out of a meter square so I think it will work.

The big dishes would definitely work, but they are a little big for the classroom!

Sorry -- there was one under the deck when I bought the house, but I just went out to check and it's gone...the contractor must have thrown it out when he was repairing the deck.  Was just junk to me; I would have loved to give it to you.

Do you have any use for a massive big screen TV that doesn't work?  That was the other gift from previous owners...
