Jackson Lake water is low
« on: Apr 14, 13, 02:58:59 PM »
Just  got back from Jackson Lake and the water is very low.  We wanted to go over to the road side reeds to see the Koi, we have seen there and the water was lower then the bottom of the reeds.

Anyone know why?

I'm thinking the lack of snow and rain. Don't know if there's another cause.

The (bottomless ;) ) sag pond off of Sierra Hwy in Palmdale is also very low.  When it gets this low the Slooflirpa usually surfaces dries it wings off then flies off to Lake Elizabeth.

At the bottom of Heath Canyon there has been no water recharge into the aquifer this spring due to lack of snow/precipitation.
(meaning the water table is dropping and should be coming up some, at this time of the year)

That's a waste of time.  Someone will put them right back in there.  They should go find something constructive to do or be laid off.

I'm telling you true here.. the answer to the koi/goldfish in Jackson Lake is water turtles. They love them.  So simple. So natural. Nature in action. cheryl o7o

A dozen or so of these would take care of the Koi problem too.

I do not think turtles would survive the winter

Put small radio collars on them.  And give them the new guest worker visas.  In October, round them up and send them back to Mexico.   :-)

There are water turtles that survive winters in much colder climates than wrightwood.

Wait a minute... turtles -- turtles, mind you -- are swift enough to be a predator to fish like koi?  And they can survive a mountain winter?  I have suddenly acquired new respect for our shrinking shelled friends...   :)

Mrs. Nark and I drove past Lake Jackson yesterday heading home.  The west side of the lake was dry.  Then the center came in view and we could see there was water at the East end but we were amazed.  What happened??

We know there used to be two lakes in Wrightwood but one dried up years ago due to underground movement.  Is that what's happening at Jackson Lake?  Does anyone know?  It was a real shock seeing it so low.

We were up at Lake Shasta last week. The lake is well below normal. Our guide said this was the lowest he's seen the lake since the late 70's. Droughts come and go... I would hate to be the guy in charge who monitors this water activity.

Crowley in the Eastern Sierra is also low and will perhaps reach the lowest level since it was made.

Maybe because winter visitors keep falling through the ice.  You cant drown if the water level is only 6 inches unless youre unconscious.

Well, isn't it interesting that people wank about attempts to remove the carp, but if the Forest Service DOESN'T mess with the lake when it comes to the weeds around the edge, people wank about that as well....
