Any news on a timeline for the rest of the sections? I was never able to get any internet service at all since September. Now my Sprint signal has completely died at my home for apparently no reason. I'm without phone or internet. I really can't keep this up for too much longer. When we moved in the dates for section 4 were manageable. Now that we've gone was past that window and it appears even the current windows are breaking down I'm not really sure what to do. I really don't want to sign a contract with a satellite company but even paying bills has become an incredibly frustrating chore of wandering around the house looking for a sliver of 3g I can use to log onto a website for two or three minutes.

I feel your pain with the Sprint signal. Until a winter storm last winter it was great - I got better than DSL out of my phone, but then - bang. I had several tickets in with them, even had somebody out here (on top of Desert View) but they just could not fix it. I now believe that somehow my phone does not catch the tower at to the top of Rivera which would give me LTE, but instead another one further away that only gives me sporadic 3G.
As for Satellite - what I did initially when I moved in there was order it and then cancel before the end of the trial period - that gave me a month without becoming tied in for 2 years. Maybe there are several providers - you might be able to stretch it until fiber is installed.
Another thing I considered during the holidays when my DSL was out and sprint was real bad, was to get one of those Verizon hotspots with only a prepaid data plan - - but then sprint magically connected to LTE as long as I had the phone in a specific place on its side and could tether it to at least get internet on one computer  :-)

Check out these guys: https://www.weboost.com/

Their device is an amplifier/repeater -- you put a cell antenna outside in as clear a spot as possible, and it retransmits the cell signal.

Generally, these have to be registered with the cell carrier -- but it's worth a try.

If you have some wireless hotspot, try putting it in a "tupperware" type plastic box and putting it as high in the air as you reasonably can.

The idea behind both of these is that trees absorb RF at cell frequencies.  Wood absorbs RF, drywall absorbs RF.  Internal phone and AP antennas are small (lower gain).  If you can bring the signal that you can get when you're standing on your roof and get it down into the house, you'll be golden.

I know they aren't exactly cheap, but you may be able to find one used on eBay (or sell yours when it's no longer needed).

I've owned stuff from Wilson Electronics, it's been a while but I think they're good folks.

Yes I've been looking hard at that weboost. My actual house is just east of the top of pinyon Mesa so I can't get the signal from the village. My spa on the other hand is right at the top. If we go up there we can get a few minutes of reception. I'm seriously considering getting the weboost because it will even help friends and family that visit because in theory it works on almost all carrier bands.

I would be very interested in hearing any results/experiences with weboost.
I tried a booster a while back - SmoothTalker Z1 60dB - MCT Connectors - 200 series
but that did nothing for me - found out when I asked for a RMA that this was not
for sprint but I should get another of their repeaters for nearly three times the money.
At that time I had high hopes for Wes' initial plan to bring internet into town wirelessly
very soon, so I did not want to spend 800 bucks for just a few month of faster internet.
That wireless did not work out technically - but waiting might have been a good thing
because now we will get REAL fast internet instead of just fast internet.
Can't wait - section 3  :-)

The fact that you can move around and get signals for a few minutes here and there means you're on the fringe, and just a few dB more and you'd be golden.  You don't care if it's coming from the Village or someplace else at this point, we know it's there, and the directional antenna will give you an idea where.

As MerlinSilk said, it may be $500 for just a few months, and it's even possible that the problem will be solved by Sprint at some point.

The question is, can you hold out for your section, or is it worth $500 for a few months?

I didn't look on eBay for a used booster, but if you can buy one on eBay and sell it back in six months, that might help.

Make sure whatever you get covers the right bands.  WeBoost has info on how to find out on their site.

Hello,

How is Section 2 coming along? I read on the last page from Wes-that UIA was doing testing at the beginning of the week, due to running into a few issues. How is it looking now?

I also read on Facebook that if section 2 is not live by tomorrow Friday that Section 2 contracts would be released.

Thank you for any updates.

I'm playing around with a weBoost Connect right now, I tried a sub-$100 booster that only gave me a few dB advantage that was more for a single room. The Connect has a much better internal antenna and boosts my signal about 16dB in low-gain mode (I need to place the antenna higher up so it'll have less feedback). If the price is turning you away, check out Amazon Warehouse for used models, Wilson also sells refurb models with a 1-Year warranty.

I ordered a couple of those 3 Pack Google WiFi Mesh Routers.. have them in stock in case someone wants one. Cost me $299, so would just pass that through.
They seem to take a while to get...

I haven't seen anybody mention Charter lately.  I know some people have no internet at the moment, are understandably frustrated, and are waiting for UIA to come to their area.  I'm in Section 4 and decided to upgrade from Frontier to Charter.  It's $39.99/mo for 100Mbps service with no contracts.  I still will be switching to UIA the second it comes to my neighborhood because Wes has been so awesome on the forums here and I prefer to support local business, but I can't stand my slow Frontier internet any longer.

If you call them and they tell you it's not available in your area, then call back again later and talk to somebody else, because it's definitely available here now.  I think our addresses don't show up because of the way the mail service is up here.

Have you seen the other mesh routers that came out from CES this year?  I know there were others before Google (Eero and another whose name I can't recall), but I prefer to stick with names I trust in this area and now  Linksys and Netgear have released their own offerings.  Do you have any opinion on those?  I have an Asus AC88U right now, and while it's been pretty fast for transferring files across the network, it's been annoying in other areas, namely wireless printing which I still haven't gotten to work, and that's with two different printers (one Brother and one Canon).  Thanks for everything you do for our community, Wes!

I have not tried the Netgear.. but I don't like their sloppy security in general.. Have not tried the LinkSys either, I will have to give it a shot.. the Google Mesh is so easy to setup, it will be hard to beat in this area.
I should try it though..  The Google WiFi auto updates the firmware which I really like.

Yeah, that's a good feature.  I probably log into my router once a month or less and often there's a firmware update waiting.  I'd bet most people never do.

Where about are you in section 4? I'm up against the hill and haven't seen Charter up around here, would definitely be a good holdover until UIA is live and ready.

This prompts my question to Wes:
I'm in section 3, what time frame should I realistically expect till we go live? If it's just a month, then it's too much trouble to temporarily switch to Charter, but if it two or more then I consider to put Charter on duty for the time being.

Desmo: how long did you have to wait from ordering to getting it?
