Actually, I think that Frontier outsources this to some evil banksters -- they save Frontier all the work of refunding in exchange for whatever they can make in fees.  I'll bet they give Frontier a small discount, because it's pretty hard to get the last $5 or $10 off the card.

I wouldn't bet against you on that..

There are just so many clever ways to steal small amounts from people... I could legally add on an administrative fee on VoIP for example.. ostensively it is for processing the taxes.. but it just a way to tack on a couple of bucks per subscriber really and bribe the provider to happily tax you. You can see this on your own phone bill (NON UIA).. they tend to disguise  it to make it appear to be just another tax, of which there are so many that no one really knows how they work and it's only a couple of bucks for that one line item.

Regards,

--Wes

The new very high capacity circuit is due next week. Sorry for all the delays, this is on the few areas where we don't have full control over all the aspects of the circuit. It has been maddenley slow in coming as I ordered this new circuit 4 months ago thinking that was plenty of time.

I am confident though that it will be in place by next week.

****Disregard. The folks who run the website changed something on their end to make it work.****

Dumb question that's probably not related to UIA, but whether or not it is, somebody smart here might know the answer anyway.

My wife's been trying to get to the Snowline Christian Academy website (small educational group in town). www.snowlinechristian.org/

She used to be able to get to the website, but now it always gives "Problem loading page" errors / "the connection has timed out." We've tried all the computers in the house, wired, wireless, and her cell phone via the home wireless. FIrefox, Chrome, Edge. Nothing works for this one website.

She can't remember if it stopped working when we switched to UIA, or if it worked for a while under UIA, and then stopped more recently.

The one other piece of data that I can give is that I tried going through a proxy -- just the first free one in a google search, hide.me.  Routing through the Netherlands (by default), the Snowline Christian Academy website comes up just fine.

Any idea what the problem might be, or if there is anything we can do to fix this?

****Disregard, Problem solved.***

It does work for me and I know what happened.

We actually own that IP.. it is being hosted, it does belong to Mark Opdahl - being hosted off a dynamic IP on his Fiber. We had to turn off isolation for him. That means that if you want to connect to a server from a person in town on our fiber to another person hosting a web server in town on our Fiber (to their home) then we have to allow that.

Got yet another question...can I block calls now since I have UIA as my phone provoder?  For the last several days  my landline (was frontier, now UIA since Monday) has been getting a large amount of spam calls.  Is there a way to block numbers or to block these annoying calls?

I have a question about my VOIP.  What features are actually included?

There are not a ton of features. But we can block calls and I believe we can have it ring a set number of times and if there is no answer it sends an email with the audio, which can be quite handy.

Who actually faxes nowadays?  It's all scan and email (the digital file). Sheesh, it's not 1999 anymore...

There must be free apps for faxing

My concern is the security on the free apps.  I have to occasionally fax my credit card number for my business and need to make sure it is secure.  But that is only a few times year and efax is $17/month.

I'd wonder about the security on the other end -- does the card number end up in a database?  That's true of anything.

I can't remember the last time I faxed something, it's been at least a decade.

I would imagine there is someone in town or nearby that'd fax something for a couple of dollars, and while it's less convenient to go there, if it's occasional then that's probably the best balance of security and cost.

A lot of folks in the medical world still rely on faxes.   Next time you visit your doctor, pick up a business card (which is also 20th century relic) and you will most likely see a fax number.  I have never seen a web page or an email address.
