Here is where the damage occurred.. Apparently he beat the Fiber with a nearby rock and so it was not a clean cut, which explains why things went down at different times. We really need another circuit out of town going a different path. It will take a couple of years to get all the permits but I think this is a worthwhile investment at this point.

Hmm... I can think of at least one more thing that could be beat with a nearby rock.  ;D

I expect cable installers will go to lockable lids and more secure pull boxes considering the impact of a crude attack like this. Most of Wrightwood had limited 911 access, cell phone and internet outages, not to mention the cost and trouble of the cable repair.

A lockable box will do zero good with a madman and a rock.. I understand he actually went and got some tools and cut a hole in the lid in order to get at it.
I agree the 911 is a real concern.

Our plan is to:
1. Get an additional feed for UIA - this might take a while but we are working on it - it has to be done.
2. Once we get an additional feed I will try to sell part of our feed to the tower locations as we have Fiber near there already. That way everyone will have dual feeds.

Regards,

--Wes
