Economic Impact Payments by Prepaid Debit Card
« on: Jan 12, 21, 06:21:59 PM »
In the mail we received an odd looking debit card and almost shredded the mailing. After further research on the US Treasury website this is posted:

We got ours via direct deposit. I assume that's because that's how we receive our tax refunds. Yea, I would haver very quickly thrown something like that away,  assuming it was junk.

We were mailed a paper check the first time and that just added to the suspicion of the debit card sent this time.

For the first stimulus in April we received the direct deposit. I recently checked online and the IRS website stated that our second stimulus was being mailed to us.

Why the change?
The only reason I can come up with as to why there is a change in how we receive our payment is due to the fact that in 2019 we received a refund but in 2020 we paid additional tax due so our bank information may not have been included on our most recent filing.

I got mine both times via direct deposit.  Thanks for the heads up, John.  That's going to confuse a lot of people.

Got the first one via direct deposit.  This time it's a debit card (or possibly two).

I also got a (slightly related) letter from the IRS.  They haven't processed our 2019 tax form, possibly because of identity fraud.

That's probably why I've got a minor snarl with Covered California, and probably why they chose to send the debit card.

I don't get no "stinkin' refund"!
