So tonight, John announced Chuck on the list as "the newest ham"... Geeze, I always thought he was the "oldest". Was I wrong? ;)

Joyce would be the oldest one by far!!! ;D ;D  I'd like to include Hank in this equation too (since he should have his license in July).  That  would make me much younger than both of them.  John is just a few months behind me.  Bob looks a lot older than us.  Anyway you are as old as you feel!!

I forgot Miles, isn't he in his late sixties ;D.  Jack is 70 something, I feeling younger already!

Chuck - I'm disappointed in you. I can't believe you overlooked a chance to take a shot at me.  :(  But then we all know you're much older than I am.

Congratulations to Class #6 and others, who took tests today.

We have 7 new Technicians.
Special recognition to Forest Gal for scoring 100%. You go Gal!

Two people passed their Technician and General in the same session.

One upgrade to General

Thanks, Clint!  And thank you for being such a good instructor, and for providing the class for us.  Now the REAL learning begins.   ;)

Congratulations to you for passing your Extra Class test!  And congrats to everyone for their accomplishments.   :2thumbsup:

The next regular cycle would be winter '09.
Like maybe January.

But if a bunch of people (10) want one sooner. I will do one sooner.

Three folks who were coming missed this one. I only have room for a limited number. Once the class is full
I start to turn folks away. So there were empty chairs this time. There will be a non refundable fee for all future classes.

It was nice to meet so many nice people today, and now they're all real radio operators.  I finally met Clint, and he's the real deal.  He mentioned only in passing that he was the one who passed the extra class license.  That's a feat.

Traditionally, the extra class gentry are the ones who can take a length of wire, a battery, and a handful of resisters and capacitors, and make a functioning transceiver.  Thus, it is a class of operators not be be trifled with.   Plus, they can receive a four-character license (W1AW, for example).  Very good stuff, and I'm proud to say I now know Clint, as well as the others I encountered this morning.

See ya'll on the airwaves.

Oh, hey... Does anybody know where I can buy a cheap radio?  :)

Now that I can play, I will be looking for CW operators with whom to chat.  (once I get a radio, as noted)

Hopefully the new hams know that they can listen to the weekly Wrightwood Disaster Preparedness net using the online scanner.

Listen in on Sunday evenings at 6pm: http://www.wrightwoodcalif.com/scanner/

This weekly Net is the most active in the area and is held on the Table Mountain 2 meter repeater.

I listened to the entire net procedure tonight for the first time, on the online scanner, and I thought it was very interesting, especially now that some of it makes more sense.  Some very interesting info was distributed.  Listening to the actual transmissions helped clear up some of the questions that were on the exam, the answers to which I learned purely by rote memory, and not because I actually knew what it meant.  I had listened to partial transmissions a few times before, and it made so little sense that I quickly gave up.

I'll give you your daily chuckle, at my own expense.  When the disaster net was first started, and was announced that check-in was at the Table Mountain 2 meter repeater, I thought that participants actually had to drive up to Table Mountain and sign in some log book or something.  I had NO idea of what any of that meant, and entailed.  I remember thinking about what kind of a pain is that, to have to drive to TM every Sunday night at 6 p.m.   ??? It didn't take me long to figure out that part.....   ;D

OMG I've got a lot to learn!   :o :-\

Check Clint's post on the previous page, it's reply #208, right underneath your question about when is the next class.   ;)
