i echo what others have said. we live in north florida but my brother lives in wrightwood so we frequent this website to see what is going on in his hometown. thank you for the opportunity to watch this family grow and develop and fly away. now please let us all know how the babies are doing (and for heavens sake, watch the cat!)!

I checked it last night and it looked like they were sleeping. I check back a few minutes later and they are gone! I think Mom told em to get out. Thank you for the cam, it was great!

All four baby steller's jays left the nest yesterday. 2 left in the morning and the other 2 left early evening. All four made it safely into a nesting area in some nearby bushes.

The photos below are of the first baby to touch ground after the first flight of about 10 feet.

How awesome watching them go from newborn to out of the nest! What a proud Papa you must be! They were so cute!

We had a Blue jay nest years ago. When the little guys finally made it out, we heard some squaking. Mrs. Hillbilly saw a little one on the ground and (lack of experience) she picked it up! The little bird yelled out, and the parents dive bombed mrs. hillbilly until she set the bird free. Scared the heck out of her....made me chuckle. Very aggressive/protective birds.

It's somewhat sad to know they're gone... but, hey, one of them might come back and grow a family of his/her own in the same place!

Now I'm curious whether the size of the nest was the same with 4 birds as it was with 5.
