Cable outage in WW
« on: Jan 24, 04, 02:35:50 PM »
Well my cable has been out since mid morning, and it is now 8:30pm Saturday night.  I have called Charter twice and all they will tell me is "the cable is still out in Wrightwood".  Da.  :P I know that.

However, I did request a credit for today's service and they agreed.  Everyone who reads this and has Charter cable service should call and request a credit for service not received today.  Why pay for something that you do not get.

Have you considered switching to a satellite service?  You know, Dish or Direct TV.  The lovely Mrs. Fudd and I have had satellite for about a 1 1/2 now after getting substandard performance from cable and have never regretted it for one moment.  Besides, TV is important to us here in Fudd Manor as we'd rather watch the boob tube than have to talk to one another.  Talking usually results in yelling.  This results in arguments.  This results in me receiving a blow to the head with a frying pan from my lovely, petite and gentle wife.

My satellite dish freezes over and loses reception when it is really cold and wet or snowy....

Everything mosaicizes then finally closes down.

What does everyone do about that when it happens?     ???

My wife and I have had satelite now for about a year and a half for that reason and others. Charter Comm. did nothing for us but drag their feet and demand more money for sub-standard performance! I'm sorry to hear about your problem, but I must say that it does not come as much of a surprise to me. Are the rates still outrageous? Does anybody else remember the good old days, when if your neighbor down the street had cable problems, then you did too?

In response to the question about the snow on the dish, we have the same problem. My dish is mounted on my roof, where I cannont access it without getting out the ladder. All I do when the snow builds up is get out the extendable tree trimmer and duct tape a towel to it and extend it to reach the dish and wipe it off. In no time the signal is back and it's digital picture and sound all the live long day..............

This is good advertising for the satellite.  Cure for the snow "white-out" on the satellite.  Clean the snow off the dish.  They don't work well with snow covering the dish!

Get a "super-soaker" squirt gun and fill it with warm water.

I know we've been down the satellite versus cable path before on this forum.  I believe the intent of the original posting was to inform all cable subscribers to call Charter for a credit to their account.

Thanks "Supermodel"!  I was beginning to question my original intent of this topic myself this morning when I logged on and read about cable vs satellite.

I called Charter again this morning.  They told me "there is a major outage in Wrightwood, unknown time of repair".  I learned nothing new over last night's report.

Be sure to request your credit for at least two days!

This post is a follow up on my original post about obtaining a credit for the outage.

I got my bill this week and the wonderful folks at Charter CHARGED me for the day's outage.  I called on the day of the outage and was told that I would be credited for the day.  The bill shows an Adjustment of $1.10 on the Summary page (front) but on the Detail page the $1.10 shows as Svc Interrupt.

Not a bad racket they have going there.  The get back at you for requesting a credit for something that was their problem in the first place.

I called again last night to complain and they gave me some excuse about accounting procedures that were not correct.

Moral - If you requested a credit for time during the outage, make sure it is really credited to your account and not charged to it.

Cable is out AGAIN! Doesnt matter if its raining, snowing, windy, or a perfect day....my cable will go out! Same routine as usual. We call and tell them its out and they tell us they have guys out here working on it. OK then tell me where their location is so I can actually see them working on it. Uh we cant do that. WHY? Because no one is actually out here working on crap! Same old story! I am so sick of cable! We were on the phone with them for 45 min. complaining! Is our cable on 4 hrs later? No! If your cable is out please complain! They need to do something! I only have 2 shows that I really love to watch and I cant watch them. Well unless I go over to someone's house who has a dish! This is just insane! :-X   >:(   :o

I ditched cable years ago.   When it went out frequently for hours on end I called and complained.    I told them how long it was out and you know what the person told me?    Well, about 30 dollars a month at about a dollar a day and it's been out for three hours so where would you like to send the .30?    I felt like tell them to send it to me.   It would be more than .30 worth of effort on their part but I was tired of it and cancelled cable that day and ordered DishNetwork.    Never, ever looked back.   Oh, except maybe to thumb my nose at them.

Same here. We got fed up with cable years ago. We also went to DishNetwork. Many more channels and the only time it go out is in a heavy snow storm. Then I fix it myself, I sweep the snow off the dish and go back to watching TV. Time spent 2 minutes and I didn't have to yell at anyone.

Um.   My husband had to yell at someone when he has to brush the snow off the dish.   First it was the missing ladder, then the missing brush at the end of the PVC pipe.   I know that isn't DishNetworks fault.

They make windshield wipers for cars, why not for the dish?

Oh, I did have to call DishNetwork today.    The kids were spending too much time watching television and sneaking into the room and watching when their homework was not done.   So I would hide the SmartCard from them and voila, no card, no television.   But I outsmarted myself and can't find the card now.    DishNetwork says it will cost me about $50 to replace the card.      I'm going to keep looking.

I've thought about switching from cable, but I think the last time I even turned the TV on was to watch the Rose Bowl, and boo, hiss, etc. for the outcome of that.  So why pay for something I don't even use?  Speaking of that, how do the monthly rates compare for dish vs cable?

I think DirectTV has 60 channels for $29.95 plus another $4.95 for local channels. They have special deals now with free installation and equipment. Why anyone up here would still have cable service is beyond me.

Well, that is quite a bit less than what I pay for cable now, and I don't even get premium channels (HBO, etc.) cuz I don't use them.  I barely turn the thing on anyway.  With a dish system, do you get ABC on channel 7, etc., or is the whole thing totally different?  I don't like the idea of having to sweep snow off of the dish if there were something I really did wanna watch!

If the small dish can be mounted under the eaves of your roof you'll never have to sweep snow off.

If you can't have it mounted under your eaves then you get a small vinyl cover for the dish and you don't have to use a broom.
