Thanks Surfer_Dude!

I once gave my brother a birthday card that said:

"You are like a fine wine...."

and you opened it up and it continued with...

"You are old, dusty and your cork is about ready to fall off!"

Now the punchbowl looks somewhat like the Mormon Rocks at Lone Pine and 138.  I've heard that the punchbowl and the mormon rocks were once together and the San Andreas Fault split up these rocks to where they are today.  Can anybody confirm this?

Actually, according to a co-worker who studied geology in college, Mormon Rocks and Vasquez county park in Aqua Dulce were once the same formation many eons ago.  Because of the fault movement, Vasquez Rocks was moved north and Mormon Rocks stayed where it is currently.

We hired a geologist to conduct a geological survey in Wrightwood and he basically stated the same theory.

There are some nice, easy hikes in this area.

How easy is "easy?"  I love to take nature walks but my feet think walking the Mall is torture. I don't give in to them but I do have to be realistic.

Try the "Devil's Punchbowl" hike down to the creek and back. I think you'll like it.
Take a snack, and take your time. It's very pretty!

Does anyone know if leashed dogs are allowed on the trail?

Took the family and dnrfuller's family and went there yesterday.  It is beautiful. Perfect weather lots of sun and water to cool off in.  We didn't get there till noon and only stayed a couple of hours but thoroughly enjoyed it.  We want to go again when we can go for the whole day.  Will take a picnic and hike up stream to the falls.  Definately a must if you havn't been there before.  Have fun!

I went there a couple of weekends ago and there were several people there with leashed dogs.

I saw one dog there on our visit.....it was leashed. We had a blast there, although its not a place I personally would visit in July....it was pretty warm there already!

P.S~ make sure to bring good walking shoes as the trail in some areas was really erroded, making it hard to pass. I will for sure return again though! (It wasnt that bad even for me AKA weinie hiker)  ;D

Thanks! I did find a place online that said leashed dogs were allowed, but I just wasn't sure. I'm looking forward to going.

After living here for 20 years, we finally made the drive over to Devil's Punchbowl today.  What a nice surprise.  Such a beautiful place.  We did not have time to get in some serious hiking and/or picnicking time.  We did the 1 mile loop.  I'd like to see it after a snow and definitely in the spring. We have visited St. Andrews Abbey and Big Rock Creek in the past and I had no idea it was pretty much in that area.
