Birds of Wrightwood Photos (Part 2)
« on: Feb 11, 03, 06:09:08 PM »
The number of birds out today was surprising.
It rainined and snowed all day and didn't seem to stop them.

This is the first time I've been able to get pictures of the Dark-eyed Junco.

The Flickers have become regular visitors to the suet feeder.
They don't mess with the peanuts.

The Steller's Jay are always around, rain or shine.

At six inches in length, the White-breasted
Nuthatch is the largest nuthatch in North America.
(You can see the snow falling in the background)

This Flicker dug a hole in the snow to gain access to the suet feeder.
(No trick photography. The bird is in a big hole)

That was a great picture! But all your pictures are awesome as always, not to mention they look even better to me now that I got a new computer with a monitor that's not in the dark ages.

Spring is here with Humingbirds appearing.
Here's the first shots of a male Rufous Humingbird (rufous meaning red-brownish)

Love that last one.  Glad the bright light came in so you could freeze the humming bird.  Birds don't like my house, I only get stray dogs and they aren't good for pictures.  :-/ ;D

I just KNEW that little guy in my back yard was a junco!!! (Sorry, I'm new to Wrightwood and birding, and I still get excited over actually identifying something.)  :)

My favorite Wrightwood bird remains the Scrub Jay.
During a Steller's Jay feeding frenzy this morning
a local Scrub Jay decided to join in.

With a little patience Scrub Jays will take peanuts from your hand.
Kids love it  ;)
