Hi Forestgal, I was working in Lake Arrowhead yesterday and these grow behind station 92, lots of them...
I'm sure there are some in Wrightwood at higher elevation, mixed in with grass.  They're a common wildflower, however, they don't stand out and are easily missed.
Best wishes, Steve

Steve, just when I think you've posted the prettiest one, you outdo yourself once again!  The Clarkias are beautiful, but then, I'm really partial to this color!  Please keep posting the flowers!

These guys must be tiny, if they are that much smaller than a penny.  Do they grow in WW, or at least higher, on our trails?

Hi Frestgal...I haven't seen Clarkia in Wrightwood yet, but it's a plentiful wildflower, often missed due to it's size....My wife found this one, I had missed it.
Thanks for your generous compliments.

Red Bush Monkey Flower, Mimulus puniceus
These flowers jumped out at me while driving in Ventura County. At first it looked like a "Sticky Monkey Flower", but the plant body was diferent. It was growing in some sand dunes near Oxnard Shores.  We have many different types of Monkey Flower in our mountains.

I have been informed that that I got the family right, Rosaceae!

These are Rubus discolor Himalayan Blackberry.

They make yummy pies.

Thanks, Janie, for clarifying.

The wildflower explosion continues, although I'm seeing more and more seed pods. My wife and I came home to find milk thistle seed pods floating around our living room. Several blooms had released their pods while we were out. They float into the air with the slightest breeze and it was interesting chasing them around with my vaccuum cleaner. The seed is less than 1mm in length.
